From the Mind of Nate: My Hopes for "Saturday Night Live's'' Upcoming November Episodes

The November hosts for "Saturday Night Live" have been officially announced, and I couldn't be any happier. According to several articles on the Internet, including this one available at http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2011/10/17/saturday-night-live-sweeps-into-november-with-three-back-to-back-shows-386301/20111017nbc01/, we have great people in store for emceeing the iconic sketch-comedy show next month. This upcoming Saturday, Charlie Day, who stole the spotlight throughout “Horrible Bosses,” will be hosting the show for the first time; with Maroon 5 serving as the musical guest for the third time. Then on November 12, Emma Stone, who I greatly respect for providing genuine performances in her films as well as being completely down-to-earth in her interviews and television appearances, will be hosting for the second time and will feature Coldplay as the show’s musical guest for the fourth time. And rounding out the month, Jason Segel, who has given stand-out performances in his movies as well as his regular role on the CBS series "How I Met Your Mother," will be hosting for the first time; and he will be joined by Florence + The Machine—who will be the show’s musical guest for the second time. Truly we are in store for some great hosting performances.

And to mark my enthusiasm about these upcoming episodes, I've been contemplating what I should post on my blog. Seeing as I'm always critical about the writing for "Saturday Night Live," I could write my thoughts about each episode and any concerns that are brewing inside me. Or, maybe I could write out any of my hopes and desires for each episode. As I juggled both options, I cam up with an idea: I will discuss both subjects in the same writing! Combining both topics would truly make for an even more fascinating blog post. Thus, without any further ado, I now present:

My In-Depth Thoughts and Anticipations for "Saturday Night Live" in November

Show #1 Charlie Day / Maroon 5 (Episode Airs on November 5, 2011)

Image taken from http://www.google.com/imgres?q=%22Charlie+Day%22&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=592&tbm=isch&tbnid=MhuBQ4iNlz6t6M:&imgrefurl=http://cavemengo.blogspot.com/2010/10/charlie-day.html&docid=2p88wvncfiRgpM&imgurl=https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbBT3_3RQc8QME3Jl5sPlZkZ89Q4sezHTMnyqrJpbWvQs0T6OEG2QdCjfVdDyqwWe2cvdBF1f_AMW_lMjWy2eHMVuGaoiDPvD954mt8upfOgqy9fwa27JtJnofYN6Ory3Ms8ucqNVWz7Q/s1600/Charlie%252BDay.jpg&w=1600&h=1067&ei=xwOuTvSCHcnx0gHi6eicDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=913&vpy=288&dur=78&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=144&ty=118&sig=105171626053390580017&page=2&tbnh=112&tbnw=149&start=27&ndsp=27&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:27
While I am very excited about seeing Charlie Day host “Saturday Night Live” on November 5, I am a tad cautious about how the episode will turn out; even though I'm sure he's going to give everything he's got as the show's host. From what I’ve seen on FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the actor’s typical comedy appears more edgy than the straightforward humor brought forwardby the NBC’s long-running sketch comedy program. Nevertheless, I'm truly looking forward to seeing him perform acts of physical comedy as well as utilize his rapid-fire delivery on live television. as well as keep up with the material being given to him. I'm sure his appearance on “Saturday Night Live” will go well; considering that he's very funny and very animated.

Also, seeing as they both starred in “Horrible Bosses,” I am very eager to see Charlie Day paired up with “Saturday Night Live” castmember Jason Sudeikis. Both performers exhibited great chemistry in this past summer’s comedy blockbuster; and it will be fun to watch them interact in several sketches. What’s more, I would love to see their co-star Jason Bateman make a surprise appearance; thus establishing a reunion between the three performers. It would be wonderful to watch and enjoy the three actors participate in a segment together; maybe even reprising their respected characters for a short follow-up to their movie. Just the sight of Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, and Jason Bateman together again in front of a live audience would generate plenty of laughter and merriment; thus enabling the audience to be applauding wildly.

Lastly, I would love to see Danny DeVito, who stars alongside Charlie Day on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” make a surprise appearance. DeVito has hosted the show quite a few times before; and his last hosting stint took place on December 11, 1999. The two performers are hilarious together on the FX series; and it would be great to see their chemistry displayed on live television. I would love to see the writers come up with a great opportunity for the two actors to perform together. Perhaps for the monologue, DeVito offers an overly-panicked Charlie Day advice regarding how to successfully open the show. It would just be great to see the two performers together and it would definitely lead the audience to cheer loudly and honestly.

But no matter what, I am looking forward to seeing Charlie Day host the show this upcoming Saturday. I'm sure he'll do the best he can with the material. And if he has any trouble, you know that Jason Sudeikis will be be there to help him out. This next show will definitely be a wild rige and I look forward to live-blogging throughout the whole telecast; commenting on the sketches, performances, and writing. But while I'm looking forward to watching and covering this episode, I'm more excited about the following two hosts; especially the next one .

Show #2: Emma Stone / Coldplay (Airs on November 12, 2011)

A week after Day hosts, Emma Stone, who starred in both “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “The Help” this past summer, will be returning to “Saturday Night Live” for her second hosting appearance. I am very excited to see her return; seeing as I know she is more-than-capable of bestowing performances that are comical and genuine. While I'm very positive that she'll once again do great in front of a live audience, I fear that the writers will make the same mistake they made when she first hosted this past season. On October 23, 2010, the actress was mostly given supporting roles in sketchesThe writers barely allotted her with any material that was amusing or memorable; thus misusing her impeccable comedic timing and first-class acting skills. In other words, I really hope that the writers don't waste her talents a second time.

Also, I really look forward to seeing Emma Stone teaming -up with the show's castmembers in all of the sketches. I look forward to seeing the young actress paired-up once again with Kristen Wiig. The last time she was paired up with Wiig, the veteran SNL castmember was the one who primarily got the laughs. This time, I truly want the writers to supply Stone with funny material. Furthermore, I want to see Stone working more with either Bill Hader or Jason Sudeikis; as well as participate in sketches with other castmembers; particularly Fred Armisen, Abby Elliot, and Bobby Moynihan-- considering that they were barely used when Stone first hosted. In addition, I really hope Emma Stone gets to work more with Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis; mainly the later-- seeing as they got to work alongside eachother when he hosted The MTV Movie Awards this past June. Moreover, I look forward to seeing more sketches in which Stone is paired-up with some of the featured players as well; particularly Vanessa Bayer and Jay Pharaoh. That way, the newer castmembers can continue to be further noticed and that out host could have a chance to get more acquainted with them. In other words, I greatly hope that Emma Stone gets the opportunity to share enough screentime with every member of the "Saturday Night Live" cast; including Seth Meyers. That way, she gets to work with everybody; even moreso than when she first hosted.

In addition, seeing that the newest "Twilight" movie opens almost a week after this episode's broadcast, I would love to see the writers and cast create a dead-on spoof of the popular franchise. The writers have poked fun at the film series in the past, and now they have a great opportunity to produce something special. Perhaps they could do send-up of the film's trailer; allowing Emma Stone to comedically portray Kristen Stewart. With any of the male performers could impersonate Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, the commercial spoof could feature a voiceover mocking the tone of the real trailers; thus establishing a strong parody. Or perhaps there could be a talk show sketch featuring impersonations of the "Twilight" cast overly-praising the film series. But no matter what, I'm sure that if they come up with a spoof of the franchise, it will be funny no matter what.

Furthermore, seeing as the digital shorts are getting more elaborate, as evident from the ones that have aired this season as well as the previous one, I anticipate a lavishly-produced short film starring both Emma Stone and Andy Samberg. I could actually see a big show-stopping short film or music video premier that would eventually hit the Internet a few short hours after the evening’s telecast; thus becoming a big viral sensation. In addition, since different past musical guests, such as Paul McCartney and Nicki Minaj, I could easily see Coldplay’s Chris Martin make a surprise appearance to lend his vocal chords to a given lyric or chorus. Such a video would be very funny and exciting; thus leading to a very memorable short film.

Therefore, I am looking forward to seeing Emma Stone return for a second hosting “Saturday Night Live.” If the writers are able to get their act together this time and give the actress topnotch material, then I'll be more-than-satisfied. With great material as well as providing Emma Stone plenty of airtime to exhibit her great talents, then we are in store for a truly memorable episode. I am very excited about live-blogging this episode; and you can bet that my analysis will be very critical and in-depth. However, even if Emma Stone and the cast bring forward a great episode, we must remember that there is still one more episode in November.

Show #3: Jason Segel / Florence + The Machine (Episode airing on November 19, 2011)

For the last show in November, Jason Segel will be taking the stage for the first time. As a big of of the actor’s endearing performances in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “I Love You, Man,” I am very excited about watching this episode. His likable personality and his strong sense of humor should lead him to be a very memorable first-time host; and I'm sure he will have great chemistry with the cast of "Saturday Night Live." In addition, Segel is musically talented as well; seeing as he can sing and play instruments such as the guitar and the piano. It should also be mentioned that Segel is a songwirter as well; seeing that he wrote specifc songs for "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Thus, besides contributing his comedic personality to the sketches, maybe the writers will let him help with any musical pieces that will be featured throughout the episode. Thus, I really hope that the writers don't miss out on any opportunity with Segel hosting. I'm very sure that he's going to do a great job.

Also, seeing as they had many hilarious scenes together during “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” I really hope that Jason Segel is paired-up with castmember Bill Hader for a good number of sketches. The two actors shared great scenes together and their interactions were very hilarious. Hopefully they are paired-up for many sketches and their chemistry is brilliantly utilized. In addition, I really look forward to seeing Segel act alongside other castmembers such as Kristen Wiig (for possibly a good character-driven sketch) or Andy Samberg (for possibly a very lively musical short film).

In addition, since Jason Segel stars on the CBS series “How I Met Your Mother,” I would enjoy seeing a cameo appearance by his co-star Neil Patrcick Harris. Seeing as the two actors star alongside each other, I would love to see Harris partake in a sketch or two; thus contributing his charismatic personality to the show. It should also be mentioned that Harris has hosted “Saturday Night Live” on January 10, 2009, it would be wonderful to see him on the show once more; considering that he did a great job and he hasn’t been on since. Furthermore, I would also love to see Amy Adams, who hosted the show on March 8, 2008, appear on the show as well. Seeing as she co-stars with Segel in “The Muppets,” which opens on November 23, 2011, it would be a great opportunity to see her on the show again as well. She was a wonderful first-time host; and it’s a shame that we haven’t seen her wonderful comedic and great singing talents on the show a second time. In other words, this is a great prospect for both Amy Adams and Neil Patrick Harris to appear on “Saturday Night Live” and contribute to a sketch or two...or three..

Lastly, seeing as Segel iis starring in and has co-written “The Muppets,” which is opening four days after the broadcast of this episode, it would be very nice to see Kermit the Frog, Missy Piggy, and many of theother iconic characters make surprise appearances throughout the show; thus integrating them into some of the sketches. It would be a nice change of pace to see the cast members interact with the renowned Muppets. Furthermore, since this would be the last episode before Thanksgiving, it would be very exciting and special to see the episode end with a fun and well-put-together musical number featuring the cast, Jason Segel, Musical Guest Florence + The Machine, and The Muppets and any surprise guests that appear during the show.

Thus, I am very excited to see Jason Segel host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time. He's sure to be a memorable host; on account of his great comedic abilities and his keenpersona. It's going to be a lot of fun live-blogging his show and commenting on all the sketches and performances. I just hope the writers don't let him down by suppliying him with less-than-stellar material.

But even if the writers fail to deliver the goods to Charlie Day, Emma Stone, and Jason Segel, we need not to worry. These three hosts will definitely do what they can to make the material better. I'm really looking forward to seeing them interact with all the talented castmembers of "Saturday Night Live." They are all naturally funnyare all naturally funny and I am more-than-confident that they will all go the extra mile to make us laugh and enjoy the show.

So, there you go. I am looking forward to see Charlie Day, Emma Stone, and Jason Segel host “Saturday Night Live”all next month. And I’m very excited to be covering these episodes for my blog. Whether I’m live-blogging the show or writing an in-depth review, you can bet that I will be completely critical of everything that's being presented. And that includeds the acting, the writing, and the overall tone of the show. Next month is going to be very exciting; and I can’t wait for the fun to start. So stay tuned for plenty of "Nater-Tainment!"

Coming Soon to My Blog: What's In Store for November

As November begins next week, so does what television networks refer to as the “Sweeps” period. Broadcast channels begin airing new episodes like clockwork; and usually the best material is saved for this time period. And to keep up the spirit, you can bet “That’s Nater-Tainment!” has great things is store as well. Here’s what you can expect to be posted in the upcoming weeks:

. More in-depth movie reviews.

. More critical blogging coverage of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” By next Monday, I will be posting my hopes for each of the upcoming episodes for the month of November. Then, I will be either live-blogging the episodes or writing comprehensive critiques. If I’m not live-blogging the show one weekend, then I will be writing a meticulous review instead. But no matter what, I’m going to be critically analyzing “Saturday Night Live” all month long!

. I’ll also be posting a special writing commemorating Conan O’ Brien being back on the air for a little over a year. I’m going to be posting my opinions on how the show has been and whether or not Conan O’ Brien is still at the top of his game.

. I’ll also be writing a detailed analysis regarding my opinions on which NBC sitcom is better: “The Office” or “Community.” For this piece, I will be evaluating the writing and performances of both programs. And, at the end of my writing, I will deem which ensemble is the best as well. Trust me. This is going to be an exciting post!

And I plan on doing more as well! So keep tuning in to “That’s Nater-Tainment!” on a regular basis. There’s a lot going on and you don’t want to miss a moment of it! November is truly going to be a THRILLING month!

Well that's the show

All in all, this was a truly weak show. Anna Farris contibuted almost nothing to tonight's show. A majority of her performances lacked any substance and she was a one-dimensional host.

The show was basically saved tonight by Jason Sudeikis. His performances in every sketch were all great and he made me laugh more than anyone else tonight. He was the MVP of tonight's show.

I will say there were other good performances too. I thought everyone did a good job during the GOP debate sketch; and that was my favorite piece of the night. In addition, all the ladies gave good performances during the musical diner sketch; even though the material was week. Lastly, I'm glad that featured players Paul Britain and Jay Pharaoh got a chance to shine; though it's unfortunate that they had nothing special to work with.

Furthermore, Drake was a very mundane performer. His voice has no punch whatsoever; and his involvement in sketches was very lackluster.

Henceforth, a very less-than-stellar show that was vastly saved by Jason Sudeikis. There were other good performances throughout the show; but he was the greatest aspect of the show.

Thank you all for following my live-blogging tonight. Next live show will be on November 5 and will feature Sudeikis' "Horrible Bosses'" co-star Charlie Day as the host and Maroon 5 as the musical guest. I'm betting that both Day and Sudeikis will be paired up for many sketches throughout the night.

Thanks again for following me and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment! Good night everybody!

Bad visual joke.

Bad ending! What alow note to end the show on

This isn't funny at all

Nothing there. Hader is being given nothing to do as well.

Kristen Wiig and Anna Farris basically have nothing to work with for this sketch

Very weak and no substance whatsoever. This is the last sketch of the night.

Back again

A book store sketch

Short and rushed sketch

Sudeiis saved it though. Best performer in the sketch

Good to see Paul Britain play a character

But Jason Sudeikis is the best part of this sketch

Sudeikis made me laugh once again

He's the only person in this sketch that's making me laugh

What the.....

We are back

Aside from the GOP debate sketch and some of the cast members performances

This has been a pretty weak show. Anna Farris has barely contributed anything to tonight's show

This song is annoying

Drake is nothing special at all

Drake again

with Nicki Minaj

This show is not as good as the other three

McCarthy was a GREAT host who saved the show through her performance. Anna Farris however, is nothing special whatsoever.

Anna Farris has been OK tonight

But I think that Melissa McCarthy was WAY FUNNIER than her.

Poking fun at Jappaneese culture

seems like a lazy idea for a sketch. Sudeikis makes me laugh however. He's a great straightman.

This sketch is questionable in it's taste

Sudeikis is always great!

This seems interesting

We are back

I have to see more of "Up All Night"

Good performances by all

But that ending felt abrupt to me. Fine sketch though

In all honesty,I like sketches like this.

This is OK

All the performances are very good.

Krosten Wiig is a good singer.

I like the musical stuff. This is alright

Good to see all the ladies together in one sketch

We are back

This episode is very lackluster so far

Aside from the debate sketch, there hasn't been anything truly funny tonight

Not a great Update at all

I'm just glad that Jay Pharaoh got some live screentime. Too bad the material was weak though.

Good Comic Con joke

Jay Pharaoh gives a good performance

The material wasn't that great though

Good to see Jay Pharaoh do a segment

He's rapping with Drake

Not funny at all!

Not so great Weekend Update so far

One good joke and nothing else

This isn't funny at all

Very uninspired segment

This character follows the same path everytime

Nothing special at all

Bobby Moynihan has played this character before

These jokes are OK so far

Seth Meyers just told a really good joke

Weekend Update now

That was not a great song at all

Drake soes not have a great voice at all! Very uninteresting song

This song is not catchy at all

I've never seen the musical guest feature the lyrics to the song they are singing

Drake now

Drake will be on in a sec or two

That was pretty good sketch

First truly good piece of the night

Sudeikis is stealling the whole sketch

Kristen Wiig is hilarious

Sudeikis is hilarious

Hader is too

Bill Hader is funny as Rick Perry

Kenan is doing ok.

Sudeikis is very funny as Mitt Romney

I really like his impression

Kenan as Herman Cain

This could be good

Another debate sketch

We are back!

November 5 is going to be a Very Good Show

That's going to be A great SHOW!!!!!!!!

CHARLIE DAY IS GOING TO HOST SNL!!!!!

He was hilarious in "Horrible Bosses"

Samberg and Drake don't have great chemisrty

What the heck is this

This could be really better

This is kind of silly

Digital short with Drake

That was strange

What kind of sketch is

This sketch is OK

The performers are doing OK with the material

I don't watch much lifetime

This is interesting

I hope this sketch is good

Game show parodies can be funny if done properly

We are back

So far this show is nothing special

Very short and rushed sketch

That was a tad different

But then it ended the same way

They also did this sketch last season too with Scarolette Johansson

This sketch is a one-joke premise

And basically the dancing goes faster each time

This sketch is basically the same joke

They keep dancing each time a guest shows up

They did this piece with Betty White in 2010

I've seen this sketch before

The Manuel Ortiz Show

Short monologue

Abby Elliot does a good Anna Farris impression

Bill Hader gets the first laugh from me for the monologue

This is really mundane so far

Questions from,the audience monologue

She last hosted in Fall 2008

SNL Tidbit for you all

This is Anna Farris' second hosting stint

I hope this episode is good

Not a great opening at all

Nothing amazing there at all

I heard a "Boo" in there from the crowd

Ireally wish they would be doing somthing more special for the opening

I just feel that this sketch is lacking a lot of energy

This is OK but nothing special

The impression isn't that great

Talking about Occupy Wall Street

Fred Armisen is playing New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg

Welcome to my coverage

And we're Live...Now

Saturday Night Live Episode Mini-Review: Ben Stiller / Foster the People

Well, the thirty-seventh season of Saturday Night Live is underway; and as a whole, I’m pretty satisfied with the way the year is progressing. Alec Baldwin started off the season by celebrating his sixteenth hosting stint. The following week, Melissa McCarthy stole the show with a truly hilarious performance; so much so that the quality of the sketches was vastly improved just by her acting. And, in all honesty, this past Saturday’s episode proved to be very memorable and funny; thanks in large part by grand performances by the cast, a good amount of clever writing, and most importantly, a great hosting stint by Ben Stiller. Thus, I can say with utmost confidence:

Ben Stiller and the Cast of Saturday Night Live Truly Brought the Funny on October 8, 2011!

The show started out with an engaging political opening that truly demonstrated the cast’s great comedic timing. In the opening piece, Jason Sudeikis cleverly portrayed Mitt Romney; who, during a press conference, was faced with many reporters’ disappointment that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was not running for president. Sudeikis enabled his portrayal of Romney to be very down-to-earth; as he modestly explained that he can be just as charismatic and entertaining as Christie; despite everyone’s dissatisfaction. In addition, fellow castmember Bobby Moynihan portrayed a very charming Christie; who explained that we should all let Mitt Romney run for office—despite the fact that he does actually want to run for President at a later date. The whole sketch was very funny; and Sudeikis and Moynihan had great chemistry. In addition, all the castmembers portraying the reporters performed greatly; and everyone’s acting matched-up perfectly.

For the monologue, host Ben Stiller explained that he hasn’t eaten all day; seeing as he was fasting for Yom Kippur. The actor made himself appear weak and hunger-stricken. This leads to castmember Andy Samberg appearing on stage as Willy Wonka; who took the actor a set filled with food; complete with two castmembers dressed up foodstuff. Samberg and Stiller did a great job; as they dived into a parody of the classic “Willy Wonka”-melody “Pure Imagination.” The monologue was a lot of fun; and Stiller possessed a lot of energy. Thus, I was looking forward to the rest of the show.

The episode contained plenty of memorable segments. One of the sketches I enjoyed was a talk-show sketch entitled “The Best of Both Worlds;” which featured Andy Samberg cartoonish portraying Hugh Jackman; equipped with a tuxedo as well as “Wolverine-“style hair and metal claws. The whole segment was meant to spoof actors who have portrayed hard-hitting characters in film as well as being skilled in the musical arts. Ben Stiller portrayed a gruff-but-tuneful Mandy Patinkin; who engaged in a faux swordfight with Samberg’s Hugh Jackman while singing a song from “Les Miserable’s.” In addition, Bill Hader also amusingly portrayed Director Clint Eastwood; complete with a very stern voice as well as a over-sized forehead; courtesy of the great makeup department of Saturday Night Live. To make the portrayal even more funny, Hader started to croon the song he wrote specifically for his film “Gran Torino.” And just when I thought the sketch couldn’t be any funnier, out comes a completely unrecognizable Hugh Jackman; who was portraying a grown-up version of Daniel Radcliffe- who is famous for playing Harry Potter as well as performing in the Broadway musical “How to Succeed in Business.” What followed next was Andy Samberg, who was portraying a parody of Hugh Jackman, to comically boast false facts—complete with an over-the-top Australian accents. Meanwhile, the REAL Hugh Jackman, who was portraying Radcliffe, rapidly shot down every comment. He did so while maintaining character; and he did so hilariously and perfectly. Samberg and Jackman were very uproarious together; and the sketch proved to be very funny and very clever. In short terms, this was one of the best sketches of the evening.

Image of Andy Samberg as "Hugh Jackman" and Hugh Jackman as Daniel Radcliffe taken fromhttp://www.google.com/imgres?q=%22Saturday+Night+Live%22+%2B+%22Hugh+Jackman%22&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=596&tbm=isch&tbnid=-Fmvk0Rb_9PtQM:&imgrefurl=http://www.gossipcop.com/best-of-both-worlds-hugh-jackman-snl-video-sketch-andy-samberg-daniel-radcliffe-saturday-night-live-watch/&docid=cL-bs4Gzz-ykUM&w=300&h=167&ei=huaVTpuUOen40gGI-728Bw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=350&vpy=306&dur=750&hovh=133&hovw=240&tx=109&ty=61&page=1&tbnh=122&tbnw=154&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0

Another segment that earned my complete satisfaction was the evening's digital short; which featured Andy Samberg and Ben Stiller portraying characters that were competing to see who looks better when wearing V-Neck t-shirts. Both performers strutted various times in a comically exaggerated manner; always wearing a different style of the shirt. Just as they did during the monologue and “Best of Two Worlds,” Samberg and Stiller were both hilarious and they acted greatly together. I don’t want to ruin the ending of the short; but needless to say, the final ultimate climax was perfect.

But, while these two pieces were both cleverly-written and greatly-performed, my personal favorite moment of the show took place during Weekend Update. During the weekly news-segment, Bill Hader appeared as Stefon; his character that’s supposed to be an expert in finding great attractions for families to see during trips to New York City. However, once again, Hader’s alter-ego detailed unorthodox night clubs that specialize in eccentric activities as well as listing the types of people who patron these attractions. And while Hader still portrays the character with great flair, the segment was made even better by the unexpected addition of Ben Stiller’s famous big-screen male model Derek Zoolander. After first seeing Stiller portray the hilariously-clueless model ten years ago, it was great to see the character emerge once again. Seeing Hader and Stiller portray their characters was an absolute treat; and the pair exhibited great chemistry. Furthermore, Seth Meyers did a great job as the piece’s designated straight man was perfect; and the trio of performers played off each other with immense panache. In short terms, this segment was the most memorable portion of the episode!

Other bright spots of the episode included Ben Stiller performing a hilarious impression of Bruce Springsteen in a fake advertisement for a fictional DVD—which details the over-the-top origins of some of his songs. In addition, castmember Jason Sudeikis comically impersonating Hank Williams Jr. during a parody of “Fox and Friends” as well as singing with the SNL band while going to commercial right before the first musical performance by Foster the People. Furthermore, Kristen Wiig gave a great comedic performance as an overly-flirtatious Halloween party guest; despite the fact she disturbed a trio of male guests after exhibiting some disturbing characteristics as well. In fact, it could be said that Wiig also gave a great performance on Weekend Update as an alleged specialist on party-planning; who could only think of activities involving pancakes. Kristen Wiig enabled her character to remain completely nervous while offering party ideas that primarily involved the breakfast meal. In addition, Wiig and Seth Meyers peformed well together; as they interact very well. In short terms, the whole cast worked so well together the whole evening; and Ben Stiller was a great and memorable host.

There were, of course, a couple weak spots during the show as well. While Jason Sudeikis was very entertaining as Hank Williams Jr, considering that the actor is able to spoof the singer’s voice impeccably while maintaining a comedically-exaggerated performance, the “Fox and Friends” seemed to lack many memorable jokes . In addition, while it was great to see Saturday night Live parody the advertisements for Lincoln Financial Group, complete with brilliant usage of makeup, the ultimate joke for each segment was a tad juvenile and ridiculous. Other than these problems, I still felt the episode was very enjoyable; and everyone on stage shined brightly throughout the evening!

It should also be mentioned that I enjoyed listening to the melodic sound of Foster the People; the episode’s designated musical guest. Even though I’m not a big fan of the song “Pumped Up Kicks,” most likely due to the cyclic nature of the song’s lyrics, I will say that the band has a great sound as well as plenty of energy. However, it should also be mentioned that when you actually read the lyrics to “Pumped Up Kicks,” the overall message is nowhere as cheery as the melody appears.

All in all, Ben Stiller’s episode of Saturday Night Live was a lot of fun and featured many great performances. I definitely look forward to seeing Anna Farris host the show this upcoming Saturday. And you can bet that I’ll be live-blogging the show live; reacting to every sketch that occurs throughout the show. So stay tuned for this Saturday! It’s going to be GREAT!!!

"The Office" Episode Review: "Lotto"

Steve Carell's departure from "The Office" left me with much eagerness Throughout the summer of 2011, I was wondering who would be taking over the position of the Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin Paper in Scranton, PA; previously held by Steve Carrell's Michael Scott. And, as the series' Eighth Season started on September 22, I was truly exciting to see Ed Helms' character Andy Bernard be awarded the prestigious title. And, in all honesty, the first episodes proved to be very enjoyable; seeing as the character's new role has enabled new storylines to unfold right in front of our eyes with great excitment and humor. And, last night, I had the opportunity to view the Eighth Season episode "Lotto;" and while the given subplot proved to be not as hilarious as I hoped, the main plotline, which happened to center on Ed Helms' Andy Bernard and Craig Robinson's Darryl Philbin, proved to be very grounded and very engrossing. Thus, I can say without any hesitation:

The Central Narrative of "Lotto", TheThe Third Episode of "The Office's" Eighth Season, Truly Wins My Praise!

This week's episode of “The Office,” written by Charlie Grandy, dealt with the warehouse staff quitting their jobs after winning the Scranton lottery. While John Krasinki’s Jim Halpert, Raiin Wilson’s Dwight Schrute, Brian Baumgartner's Kevin Malone, and Ellie Kemper's Erin Hannon work in the stockroom, Regional Manager Andy Bernard, played pleasantly by Ed Helms, asks former warehouse foreman Darryl Philbin, played firmly by Craig Robinson, who now works in the workplace, to bring in new recruits to perform the task of loading the delivery trucks as well as performing other tasks. Unfortunately, Darryl is completely discontented with his present situation; seeing as he no longer works in the warehouse after he was promoted in the Season Six episode "St. Patrick's Day;" during which he suggests to Kathy Bates' Dunder Mifflin CEO Jo Bennett a way to improve the shipping of paper. His dicontent soon transforms into severe depression; leading to the character listing all the shortcomings of working in a warehouse to a room full of applicants during an interview session. Soon afterwards, Craig Robinson’s Darryl Philbin speaks with Ed Helms' character and explains why he feels he deserved the Regional Manager position; citing his promotion as one of the prime reasons. Robinson’s Darryl states that he was passed over for the Regional Manager position. Thus, he bluntly tells Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard to either give him the Regional Manager position or fire him for not doing his job properly-- seeing as he failed to inspire the applicants during the interview. Meanwhile, John Krasinki’s Jim Halpert and his fellow Dunder Mifflin employees create a poorly-designed method to load bundles of paper onto the delivery trucks; in hopes of making their job easier. And, while this subplot is quite interesting, the performances Ed helms and Craig Robinson supply for their respective characters prove to be the true highlight of the episode.

What’s so wonderful about Ed Helms' depiction of Andy Bernard is that, he's enabling his designated character to take his title of Regional Manager completely seriously; even as he tries to remain friendly with everyone in the workplace. As the first two episodes of the season depicted the character being tested to see if he’s worthy for his new position as Regional Manager, this week’s installment lets us see how he handles his first company crisis; i.e. hiring new employees to work in the warehouse. In addition, Ed Helms’ character has to deal with the personal problems of one of his workers; i.e. Craig Robinson’s Darryl Philbin. While he does not want to fire the former warehouse foreman, he refuses to put up with Darryl’s poor attitude. And, during the course of the episode, Helms maintains his character’s polite-yet-serious stance; as well as his ever-present state of insecurity. And, soon after hearing Craig Robinson’s character explain the dissatisfaction he carries towards his job, Ed Helms enables his character to stand tall once more and speak in a manner so proficient, that we are able to see why he’s the best choice to be the new Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton.

And just as Ed Helms is great as Andy Bernard, it is very important to mention Craig Robinson’s unyielding performance as Darryl Philbin. After learning that his former fellow warehouse workers quite after winning the lottery, we see the strong bitterness brewing inside the character. During the information session for the new potential stockroom staff, the actor wears a completely despondent expression while detailing the negative aspects of working in the warehouse. And, when his on-screen persona has his ultimate confrontation with Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard; we see the anger blaze in Craig Robinson’s eyes as well as the stern manner he positions his body. In other words, Craig Robinson is truly getting the opportunity to showcase his true acting skills. Thus, it’s wonderful to see the actor incredibly involved in an episode’s main storyline.

And that’s the most memorable aspect of this episode. Even I am very happy to see that Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard and Craig Robinson’s Darryl Philbin get more screen time; as the actors are truly capable of providing down-to-earth performances. As the Regional Manager, Ed Helms' Andy Bernard serves a very significant purpose for the show; seeing as he is in charge of overseeing all activities in the workplace. Ed Helms gives a great performance as his character; seeing as he has great chemistry with all of his co-stars and he's quite skilled at various forms of comedy; such as physical, verbal, and subtle. In addition, I am very happy to see more of Craig Robinson’s Darryl Philbin; seeing as the character has stolen many scenes throughout the series due to his impeccable comedic timing as well as his easygoing attitude contributing to great exchanges with many different characters on the series. Thus, i am looking forward to seeing Ed helms' Ander Bernard and Craig Robinson's Darryl Philben interact more throughout the season; and hopefully, more intriguing storylines between the two will be as gripping and memorable as this one.

But while the main narrative was very engrossing and the feats accomplished by Ed Helms and Craig Robinson were very grand, I was a tad disappointed by the designated side-story. While it is obvious episode writer Charlie Grandy wanted to save plenty of seriousness and poignancy for the main storyline, I really wish the comedy supplied by the subplot was not slapstick in nature. The idea of John Krasinski's Jim Halpert, Raiin Wilson's Dwight Schrute, Brian Baumgartner's Kevin Malone, and Ellie Kemper's Erin Hannon working in the warehouse sounded very promising at first; but, unfortunately the outcome was not memorable. The characters appeared to be engaging in comedy that did not seem consistant as most episodes of "The Office." For instance, I do not believe that Raiin Wilson's Dwight Schrute, who has been seen performing many acts of manual labor throughout the series' run, would be incapable of operating the heavy-lifting equipment. In addition, the method in which the workers finally develop to load the paper onto the deliver truck was completely over-the-top and did not provide any laughs. In fact, the whole storyline felt very rushed and I really wish we could have seen more of the main plot.

Nevertheless, “Lotto” proves to be a very good episode; strongly highlighted by Ed Helms’ and Craig Robinson’s stand-out performances. In addition, I must commend cast member John Krasinski for directing the episode; and guiding the two thespians to further display their genuine acting skills. I am very excited to see how the rest of Season Eight plays out; especially now that Craig Robinson’s Darryl Philbin’s is getting more attention. And I look forward to seeing Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard take on more business crises as they occur at Dunder Mifflin. After all, business provides people with plenty of opportunities and memories. And “The Office” definitely possesses a great deal of both.

After-Show Thoughts

Melissa McCarthy's performance as the host was the best part of the show. She managed to save a lot of sketches thanks to her acting. In fact, she stole the whole show. She had great chemistry woth the cast; particularly with Kristen Wig, Jason Sudeikis, and Andy Samberg. I really hope she gets to host again.

As for the sketches, the writing wasn't very sharp tonight. The office sketch, the digital short, The internet talk show sketch, the final sketch, and Kenan's Update segment were the best segments of the night. Everything else was either mediocre or forgettable.

While this episode was not as good as the premier, it wasn't terrible. Jay Pharoah treated us to a great impression of Chris Rock. In addition, Kristen Wiig gave a great performance as well.

Nevertheless, Melissa McCarthy's performance truly was the most memorable aspect of the show. I look forward to seeing her in more movies; hopefully with Kristen Wiig.

Thank you so much for following me tonight on my blog. I look forward to posting my next writing sometime this week. So have a good night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!

Jason Sudeikis does a great Robert Osborne

Another Turner Classics Movies Sketch

We are back

Is this the part of the show when the material is just going to completely weaken?

It's usually around this time during the show that the writing really declines in quality.

Abrupt ending!

McCarthy is really good at physical comedy; as I said before

I don't really find this sketch hilarious.

McCarthy is doing the best she can to save the sketch. The writing isn't funny.

Melissa McCarthy is doing well but the material isn't great at all.

I have yet to watch an episode of "Whitney"

I'll watch it this week!

Even though I'm not a large fan of Lady Antebellum, they have a really good sound for that song.

Lady Antebellum is performing now

I really hope someone from Up All Night hosts SNL

Especiall Will Arnett

We have commercials now

His impression made the sketch

The sketch itself is kind of silly though

Good to see Jay Pharaoh star in a sketch

Sure has been a lot of dancing tonight so far

She's very funny though

She and Sudeikis have really good chemistry

In all honesty, this character reminds me a tad of the character she played in Bridesmaids

She's giving a great performance

and Jason Sudeikis is always a great straight man!

Good to see Melissa McCarthy playing a character

We are back!

Commercials

Wow. That's unbelievable!

They are definitely putting a lot of effort into the commercial spoofs

That was slightly disturbing but funny

New commercial spoof

This monologue is definitely getting the audience going

I wonder if this episode will feature any special guests

They're giving great performances

Kristen Wiig again!

I'm always great to see that a host is a fan of SNL

I'm not a big fan of Lady Antebellum

I'm really hoping for a good show tonight

The host doesn't really get to say "Live from New York" alot in recent seasons

Great to see Melissa McCarthy open the show

I really hope that McCarthy gets to be featured alot tnight as the host!!

They were both terrific in "Bridesmaids"

They work so well together!!

Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are great together!

Great to see Melissa McCarthy in the opening sketch
