That concludes my live-blogging coverage
Thank you all for following my blog tonight. Have a great night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!
Well, that's the show
Another episode consisting of very weak writing. I feel very bad for Anna Kendrick. she is very talented and it's a shame to see her talent wasted with such bad sketches. I have no idea how the writers keep coming up with such bad sketches.
All of these sketches tonight suffered from weak writing
Basically it's gotten to the point where you can tell where the sketch is going right at the start. SNL has gotten way too predictable now. I miss the days where the writers came up with sketches that were unpredictable and genuinely funny. Those days are gone, unfortunately.
Anna Kendrick and Vanessa Bayer are giving alright performances here
Their performances are good. The joke of the sister being picked to be Pharrell's back-up singer was a bit predictable.
The performances in this sketch is what saved it.
Taran Killam has that ability to save poorly-written sketches with his performances. In addition, Bobby Moynihan got some laughs out of me when he enthusiastically said that he was ordained as a minister, All the performances in this sketch were good.
Taran Killam as a muscular man who cannot life the heavy boulders
This is a one-note sketch if I ever knew one. I will say that Killam's performance is saving this. Even though the whole thing is very predictable
This episode has not been great tonight
Anna Kendrick has given a fine performance as host. Though I feel the sketches she has been given aren't great. The writing is just too bad this season.
Pharrell is on aagin
I don't think I have heard this song before. This song is a bit too repetitive for my taste. He's been an alright musical guest. Though he hasn't been my favorite of the season.
And Kenan Thompson once again playing the screaming janitor
This sketch wasn't great. I feel bad for Anna Kendrick. She is too talented to be given such bad writing. This isn't a great episode tonight.
The return of Jay Pharoah as his character "Principal Frye"
So the rest of the show is going to primarily be all reoccurring sketches. Jay Pharoah usually does the same thing whenever he plays this character-- breathing heavily and speaking quickly. This sketch has gotten old now. Anna Kendrick is performing well, though, She has been a good host so far. She is just be saddled with very weak material.
I am surprised they are bringing back this sketch after not doing it for a while
They did not do "Les Junes De Paris" at all last season. Taran Killam and Anna Kendrick are doing well. The dancing is of everyone is not bad, Though there really wasn't anything different about this sketch from most another installments.
I'm getting a few chuckles out of Moynihan's portrayal of the "Game of Thrones" author
I like him admitting that he's running out of idea. I like the idea of him giving vague spoilers about his last book.
Bobby Moynihan playing the author of "Game of Thrones"
I guess Moynihan's a big fan of the book and HBO series.
Wheelan's material isn't that great though
I liked his tattoo commentary more.I am glad that Cecily Strong and Colin Jost got to interact a bit. Though they do not seem to possess great chemistry. At least they are trying new things. I just wish the writing would be better.
The writing is so not good. The writing for 'Update" has not been great this season.
The SNL writers should feel ashamed of their lazy work.
Kate McKinnon has done her impression of German Chancellor Angela Merkel before
She does a fine impression. Her performance improves the quality of the weak writing in these segments.
I haven't been impressed with Colin Jost on 'Weekend Update"
Same goes for Cecily Strong. I have heard funnier jokes aimed at the Mets. Not that great so far.
I guess Pharrell is "Happy" because this song has been possibly ome of the biggest songs of the year.
Not a bad performance though.
I used to like this song quite a bit
Nut the radio stations and VH1 have played this song WAY TOO MUCH!!
Pharrell is performing "Happy"
CALLED IT!!! Ane he's wearing his trademark Arby's hat-- just like when he performaned at the Academy Awards last month.
This short film is not too bad
Good performances from Kyle Mooney and Vanessa Bayer. Beck Bennett' was good as well. I am glad Bennett and Mooney are getting more to do on the show. I think it is safe to say that they will be coming back next season.
Jay Pharoah and Bobby Moynihan made me chuckle with their poor attempts to cheer up Ariel
The performances in that sketch were fine. The writing wasn't that great. Anna Kendrick is a good singer. She is very talented.
So Anna Kendrick's Ariel sings like various female pop stars
Ana Kendrick is giving a fine performance. Though the writing is kind of predictable.
A "Little Mermaid" sketch
They have done "Little Mermaid" sketches before-- back when Tine Fay hosted in 2011 and Reese Witherspoon back in 2001.
This isn't funny at all
Just way too juvenile and way too repetitive. So far, this show isn't very great. Anna Kendrick is doing alright so far. Though the writing is not very good at all. What a waste of talent.
Another music video featuring the female castmembers
This reminds me of the "Twin Beds" video they did back when Jimmy Fallon hosted this past December.
The "list of corrections" bit is done at the end of every one of these sketches
Not unpredictable at all.
Kenan Thompson's impression of Neil deGrasse Tyson isn't that good
He's never been that great of an impressionist anyway.
The performances from the cast are alright
The idea of making fun of the Fix News anchors have been done each time they do these sketches.
Anna Kendrick is very talented
The monologue was well-performed, but the overall idea has been done before (an example of which would be Anne Hathaway's monologue from last year where she and the cast did a parody of the song "One More Day" from Les Miserables."
Anna Kendrick and the cast are giving good performances
Though the concept of of a parody of songs from Broadway musicals have been done before, Lorne Michael's appearance was alright.
I had a feeling they would do a musical monologue for her
Anna Kendrick is a good singer. A parody of the first song from "Neauty and The Beast"
This is Anna Kandreck's first SNL hosting stint
Let me guess: Pharrell will be performing his hit song "Happy" this evening. I hope nna Kendrick gets good sketches.
The LFNY fake-out at that point was the funniest part of the sketch
Otherwise, this was a pretty sub-par opening. SNL hasn't done a lot of exciting openings this season.
The whole idea that the GM representative doesn't know anything about the matter at hand
This is pretty much a one-note sketch. The performance are fine but the writing just isn't very funny.
