That's the show. What a very weak finale.

Thank you all for following my blog.  I will be posting a review of this episode as well as some brief comments about this season by the end of the weak.  Thank you all for following my blog.  Have a good night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!

That was a weak sketch to close out the season

The writing has been truly awful this season

I'm surprised hosts agree to do these sketches. SNL is no longer must-watch television

Oh no. I am very tired of these former porn star characters that Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong play

Good to see Kristen Wiig join Andy Samberg in this sketch.  But this is a pretty poor sketch idea to close out the season.  I was hoping for something more creative. SNL very rarely does anything genuinely creative nowadays.  This show is just not good anymore.  I shudder when thinking about how Season 40 will turn out to be.

St. Vincent is good performer

Aside from  the monologue, the two guest segments on "Weekend Update" and the Lonely Island video, there hasn't been anything particularly great tonight.  St Vincent is good.  But that's about it.  I wonder how they plan to close the show tonight.

St. Vincent is a good musical guest. I am enjoying her performances tonight.

Nice to see Andy Samberg's Blizzard Man character back

He always gives a gpod performance as this character.  I liked seeing 2-Chains dancing to Samberg's rapping.  The sketch basically played out the same way as previous installments though.

We are BACK!!

That was a cute little short skit.

Commercials are on now.

Another digital short

Yes!   A new Lonely Island music video.  This is a good video.  I'm glad we got to see The Lonely Island together again in a SNL musical short.

Another digital short

Yes!   A new Lonely Island music video.  This is a good video.  I'm glad we got to see The Lonely Island together again in a SNL musical short.

This sketch isn't very great.

Aside from the monologue and the guest commentaries on "Weekend Update", there hasn't been a lot of great sketches tonight.  This has been a disappointing season finale so far.  Hopefully there's a good sketch to close out the season.

We are BACK!

WakingUp with Kimye.  Taran Killam's Bruce Jenner impression is funny.  Jay Pharoah does a good impression of Kanye West.  Nasim Pedrad's impression of Kim Kardashian is alright.  But the writing for this sketch isn't very funny.

Next sketch is coming up!

Commercials are on now

These sketches always play out the same way. It just ends up being a bunch of kissing

And Maya Rudolph is here too.  So much kissing   Wow.

Oh yeah. Paul Rudd had a reoccurring role in these sketches.

Lots and lots of kissing.  Why did they bring this sketch back?

Kristen Wiig! But it's the kissing family !!!!

I have NEVER been a fan of these sketches.  It's just a bunch of kissing each other.  And lots of man-on-man kissing.  An easy crutch for getting laughs that SNL uses.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

This is great. I also like him calling Paul Rudd "Clueless"

That was a good commentary.  Andy Samberg with Paul Rudd were great.  And I really do feel that Kyle Mooney has been one of the best parts of this season.  Too bad Colin Jost and Cecily Strong just aren't funny.  None of their jokes were anything special tonight.  I wonder how "Weekend Update" will go next season if they are still anchoring.  They have not made a good impression all.

Samberg is always great as Nic Cage

I like Samberg calling Colin Jost "Seth".  I always like seeing Samberg and Paul Rudd together.

Good to see Andy Samberg as Nic Cage again

And Paul Rudd!!!  This should be good.   I LOVE that Rudd is going to play Ant-Man.

I feel that Mooney as his chacter here is very Andy Kaufman-like in his delivery

I'm glad that SNL hired someone who specializes in more experimental comedy.  I hope he and Beck Bennett come back next season

Only three jokes and first commentary

Good to see Kyle Mooney as his stand-up comic character Bruce Chandling.  Mooney and Beck Bennett have been the best of the new castmembers this year.

I hope this is a good edition of "Weekend Update"

I have been very disappointed with Cecily Strong and Colin Jost.  They are not very funny together.

We are back with "Weekend Update"

That was a good performance

Commercials are on now.  "Weekend Update" should be coming up next.

This is a good song

Many of this season's musical guests have been MUCH BETTER than last year's.  We had good performances this year.

St. Vincent is performing her song "Digital Witnesses"

One of my friends told me about this song.  I listened to it on Youtube.  I like her sound and the music is pretty catchy also.

We are back with St. Vincent!

St. Vincent's first performance is coming up

There really wasn't much to that sketch

Andy Samberg basically played a hunchback who make inappropriate comments to women.  That was too rushed and the ending was abrupt.  So far, other than the monologue, there wasn't anything very great so far.  Hopefully the show gets better.

The performances in this sketch are good.

I just feel the writers are straining to come up with ideas.  Just a bunch of very simple premises.

A sketch about 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame"

Confident hunchback.  Okay.  Andy Samberg playing a very confident hunchback.  This is pretty much a self-explanatory sketch.

We are BACK!!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

Good to see an brand new SNL Digital Short

This is pretty much a strannge short.  Basically a DJ getting the crowd to go even more nuts.  I mean, it wasn't bad.  But I was hoping for something more epic to mark Andy Samberg's first hosting stint.

The performances in that sketch weren't bad. I just wish it was funnier.

I like Kyle Mooney as the camper playing the xylophone.

I wonder why this sketch is taking place in 1990.  There hasn't been any references to that year at all.

Andy Samberg playing the camp prankster

This sketch isn't bad.  Though I feel it could be a little funnier.

This could be a good sketch.

A camp sketch.  Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon are giving good performances.

We are BACK!!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

This is very funny. I like the joke about Pharell's hat

That was cute.  And Bill Hader is here as well.  MARTIN SHORT!!!  That was GREAT!!!  Very good monologue.  It made up for the mediocre cold opening.

I like how he's poking fun at the fact that he did not appear in a lot of live sketches

Figured that Seth Meyers would make an appearance tonight.  This is funny so far.  Samberg and Meyers are always good together.

That was GREAT!!

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is a very good show.  One of the funniest new shows in a few years.

I am happy to see Andy Samberg host SNL for his first time

I want a good show tonight.

This season has just been very bad

I really want to be pleasently surprised with the sketches tonight.

Rudolph's performance is alright

The sketch just isn't very funny.  The writing is just downright mediocre.  What a shame that Samberg did not get to open the show.  I already have a bad feeling that the writing will not be very funny.

This is a disappointing opening so far.

Maya Rudopl as Beyonce.  Figured she's be on the show to plug her upcoming variety special.

The writing isn't terrible, it's just that this sketch isn't very funny so far

Jay Pharoah's impression of Jay-Z is good

Sasheer Zamata is doing alright as well.  This sketch isn't particularly anything special though.

So they are opening with a skit about Beyonce, Jay-Z and Beyonce's sister

I was hoping they would do something special considering that it's the season finale and Ansy Samberg is hosting.

And We Are Live....NOW!!!

We Are Live in a Few Minutes. Stay Tuned!

It's Getting To That Time!

In a little under an hour, my live-blogging coverage of the season finale of "Saturday Night Live", featuring Guest Host and Former Castmember Andy Samberg and Musical Guest St. Vincent, will begin.  I will be commenting on the writing, the sketches, all of the performances, and anything else that comes to mind during the telecast.  I REALLY hope this season's finale is a good one; seeing that the 2013-2014 year has not been very good at all!

Be sure to have your televisions set to NBC by 11:30pm and have my blog on your computers.  Be sure to keep refreshing your computer screens so you can see my latest remarks.  Be sure to share your own thoughts by clicking the "Comment" link underneath any of my posts.  Your feedback means a lot and I look forward to seeing your opinions.

Thank you all for following my blog.  Stay tuned and I will see you at showtime.  It's the Season Thirty-Nine Finale!!!

Tonight, Andy Samberg Hosts the Season Finale of "Saturday Night Live"!!Whi

Well, this is it.  After twenty episodes, Season Thirty-Nine of "Saturday Night Live" comes to a close with Former Castmember Andy Samberg hosting for his very first time.  Coincidentally, he is hosting two years since leaving the long-running variety after seven years as a castmember.  I have enjoyed Samberg's performances on the show when he was a cast.  Even when the writing was not at its best, Andy Samberg's performances as well as his keen comedic chemistry greatly helped improve sketches.  I have genuinely enjoyed most of Samberg's digital shorts; which he put together with writers Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.  All three were members of the comedic troupe The Lonely Island and were brought onto the show in its thirty-first season.  Andy Samberg was hired to join the cast as a featured player and Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone were enlisted as being writers for the show. His breakout short on the show was a music video entitled "Lazy Sunday"; which he did with fellow castmember Chris Parnell.  The video featured Samberg and Parnell eating donuts and rapping about their excitement over seeing the 2005 Disney film adaptation of "The Chronicles of Narnia."  The video was a big success and Samberg's popularity started to grow.   During his tenure as a castmember, Samberg collaborated with different musical guests and hosts.  But it was Justin Timberlake who ended up being Samberg's biggest collaborator; as they starred in digital shorts as a pair of smooth-voiced R & B singers.  Like "Lazy Sunday," their  videos became instant viral hits after debuting on the show.  Samberg's seven years on the show were enjoyable and I was sad to see him leave after Season Thirty-Seven.

While I did enjoy seeing Andy Samberg perform regularly on "Saturday Night Live", it should be stated that I have become a fan of his starring role on the FOX comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine; which premiered September 17 of this past year.  On the show, Andy Samberg stars as Detective Jake Peralta; a very skilled but juvenile police officer.  Despite his clownish antics around the police station where he works, Samberg's character solves cases very well.  Andy Samberg exhibits his comedic timing more-than-frequently and he has good chemistry with all of his co-stars; especially Andre Braugher, who plays Captain Ray Holt- the no-nonsense Commanding Officer of the Precinct.  Watching Braugher interact with Samberg on "Brookly Nine-Nine" is enjoyable; as his deadpan delivery as a good match for the latter's fun-loving attitude.  For his performance as Detective Jake Peralta, Andy Samberg has won a Golden Globe at this past January's ceremony.  I am looking forward to seeing "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" return for its second season this Fall.

Needless to say, I hope tonight's season final of "Saturday Night Live" is a good one.  The writing has not been very good this season; as you know from my live-blogging of many of this year's shows.  Seeing as this is the final episode of the season, I truly hope that the writers come up with good sketches that suite Samberg's comedic style.  I really want a fun show tonight and I greatly hope I am not disappointed; as I will be commenting on the sketches, the performances of the cast, Andy Samberg, and Musical Guest St. Vincent; who is performing on the show for her first time.  I truly hope for a good show.

So, be sure to have your televisions set to NBC by 11:30pm and have my blog on your computers.  Be sure to keep refreshing your computer screens so you can see my latest thoughts.  Feel free to share your own own viewpoints on the episode by clicking the "Comment" link underneath any of my posts.  Your feedback means a lot and I look forward to seeing your opinions.

Saturday, May 3, 2014

Well, that's pretty much the show

Andrew Garfield did a very good job as the host.  And aside from the cold opening, Colin Jost and Cecily Strong onn WU, and the predictability of the "Oliver Twist" sketch, this wasn't a bad show at all.  Lots of good performances and I am glad that Andrew Garfield got to be used well as the host.  And I was happy to see Emma Stone appear in the monologue as well as a sketch.  Not bad at all.  Thank you all for following my blog tonight.  Have a good night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!!

They are replaying The Bird Bible Ad???

Wow!!  They must not have time for another quick sketch.  That's a disappointment.  What a waste of filling time.

This hasn't been a bad show

Commercials are on now

The show is almost over.

I am enjoying their performances a lot

Chris Martin is a great vocalist.  Great performances by the band

This song sounds good so far

Coldplay is such a good band.  They are definitely one of the better musical guests this season!

We are back with Coldplay!

cOMMERCIALS ARE ON NOW

The writing in this sketch isn't bad

And I'm happy to see Featured Player Kyle Mooney get more appearances in live sketches.  Not a bad sket ch, though the ending was a tad abrupt.

Andrew Garfield is doing a good job in this sketch

I like that he is being given real roles on the show and not just playing straightmen like a lot of hosts have done this season.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

commercials are on now

This is greatE

Even though the joke is basically the two of them having difficulty kissing, their performances are very good.  Chris Martin's cameo is nice, but the whole man-on-man kissing joke is played out.  Though  I did like Martin's saying his lines in an overly-romantic manner.  The ending wasn't bad.  Not a bad sketch.

Good to see Emma Stone in a sketch,

I like seeing them together in a sketch.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now.

Taran Killam and Kate McKinnon are definitely my two favorite people in the main cast.  Cecily Strong and Colin Jost still do not do a lot to impress me as "Weekend Update" anchors.

Taran Killam is the only castmember to interact with the audience

I wish more castmembers would do that.

I love the way he says "NEXT:!" everytime he goes to another card

Taran Killam always performs well as this character

The writing can be harsh for these segments, but Killam makes me laugh with his performance.

Colin Jost hasn't really made me laugh

Alright!!  Taran Killam as "Jebidiah Atkinson!  He's always great as this character.

I wish Kate McKinnon would be a co-anchor on "Weekend Update"

She would be MUCH FUNNIER than Cecily Strong!

Even though the writing of this segment isn't good, Kate McKinnon's performance is making it good

Kate McKinnon is a very good performer

She has been my favorite of the female castmembers this season.  She has always been able to improve the quality of poorly written sketches with her performances.

Kate McKinnon as her Russian character

She does a very good job speaking in a mock Russian accent.

I just find Colin Jost to be really bland.

Cecily Strong just isn't very funny to me.

I hope this edition of "Weekend Update" is good

We are back with "Weekend Update"

Good performance by Coldplay

The show is going to commercial now.  "Weekend Update" should be coming up next

This is a good performance.

They are such a good band.

Their music is great and I like this song very much,

They are performing their new song "Magic"

I like this new song of theirs.  Their music is always good.  I always enjoy their performances on SNL.

We are back with Coldplay

Commercials are on now

Coldplay's first song will be coming up next

Kate McKinnon was funny there asher character

I guess this ewas meant to be a parody of a certain movie.  The performances in it were good.

This filmed piece isn't terrible

Though the joke of everyone coming after Andrew Garfield's character because he isn't crazy about Beyonce's new music is kind of silly.  I liked Chris Martin's cameo appearance in the sketch though

I liked Andrew Garfield's performance very much

He's been a good host so far

TCecily Strong's character eating all of the soup was very predictable

Andrew Garfield is giving a good performance is good.

I

Cecily Strong's performance here is not very funny

Her acting is too forced.  I have grown very tired of her on SNL.  And it is only her second season.  Not good at all!

A parody of "Oliver Twist"

I hope this sketch is good.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

That wasn't a bad sketch. I liked it.

Commercials are on now.  Next week will be Charlize Theron's second time on SNL,  She first hosted back in the Fall of 2000.

The writing isn't bad in this sketch.

I am liking this sketch.  I'm also getting laughs out of Taran Killam's impression of Russel Crowe,

I've never been crazy about Kenan Thompson's Steve Harvey impression

Kate McKinnon's Shakira impression is good.  And I'm getting some laughs out of Andrew Garfield's Justin Timberlake impression.

Andrew Garfield as Justin Timberlake!

All the impressions so far are not bad.  I like Kye Mooney as his electronic musician character

New "Family Feud" sketch parody

They did this one this past December when Jimmy Fallon hosted

We are BACK!!

First sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

This commercial parody mainly consists of a lot of juvenile humor

An easy crutch for SNL nowadays.

That was a cute monologue.

Not bad at all.

They are so good together I

So Aidy Bryant has an appearance in the new "Spider-Man" film.  Good for her,

Called IT!!!!

She is always grear when she hosts.  I hope she hosts again in the future.

I hope Andrew Garfield gets good sketches

This is Coldplay's fifth time as musical guest

I REALLY hope tonight's show is a good one

Kenan Thompson isn't really adding anything funny to this opening

This isn't a great opening at all  They have been doing A LOT of group openings a lot lately.  I guess it's there way of giving all the featured players an opportunity to open the show,

Good to see Featured Player Shasheer Zamata get screentime in the opening

Though her material isn't funny.  Jay Pharoah's impression of Dennis Rodman is alright, I guess.  It's just the writing is not funny.  It is just a bunch of race jokes.

I figured they woild do something that addresses Don Sterling

Bobby Moynihan is doing an alright job with the writing.  Though the material isn't very funny,.

We Are Live....NOW!!!!

We are live in a few minutes!!!

Stay tuned!

It's Almost That Time!

At 11:30pm, my live-blogging coverage of tonight's episode of "Saturday Night Live:, featuring Guest Host Andrew Garfield and Musical Guest Coldplay, will begin.  I will be commenting throughout the show on the sketches, the writing, the performances and anything else that comes to mind during the show.

Tonight, Andrew Garfield Hosts "Saturday Night Live"!

Tonight at 11:30pm, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" returns from a three week break with an all-new episode; the first of the final shows of the season.  Andrew Garfield will be hosting the show for his first time.  Garfield is currently starring in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"; which opened just yesterday.  I enjoyed Andrew Garfield's performance as Peter Parker in the 2010 reboot of the "Spider-Man" film franchise.  As Peter Parker- a high school student- who gets bit by a radioactive spider and gains the power to shoot webs as well as perform incredible acts of agility, thus becoming the titular superhero-- Andrew Garfield gave a great performance and possessed terrific chemistry with Emma Stone-- who portrayed our hero's love interest Gwen Stacy.  Both Garfield and Stone were a treat to watch in the 2012 film and I look forward to seeing the sequel at some point.

Image of Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Andy Samberg taken from http://www.buzzsugar.com/Andrew-Garfield-Emma-Stone-Saturday-Night-Monologue-20402824

I am looking forward to seeing Andrew Garfield host "Saturday Night Live" this evening-- as it will be his first time. Joining Garfield as the show's musical guest will be Coldplay-- who will be performing on the show for their fifth time. Garfield last appeared on the long-running variety series on November 12, 2011, when Emma Stone, who is also his actual girlfriend, hosted for her second time, during the monologue-- in which then-castmember Andy Samberg dressed-up as "Spider-Man" and poked fun  at the fact that the reboot was opening a decade after the original film.   I am sure that she will appear at some point during the show and partake in a sketch or two.  I enjoyed Stone's second hosting stint; as she performed very well with the cast and brought a lot of energy to the sketches. I am interested in seeing what sketches Andrew Garfield is given tonight,  I am looking forward to seeing him exhibit his comedic chops tonight.  I just hope the evening's sketches are good tonight-- considering that the writing this season has NOT BEEN VERY GOOD AT ALL!!

Which bring me to this point:  with three more episodes to go this season, I do not have a lot of faith left.  As you have seen from many of my live-blogging sessions this season, I have not been very happy with the poor quality of writing this season.  It seems as if the writers are more focused on making the joke of a sketch very obvious right at the start and dragging the whole thing out in order to fill the designated runtime.  in fact, the humor of many of the sketches this season have been borderline juvenile-- so much so that it seems that the show is trying to only target young people this season.  What's more, the over-reliance on longtime castmember Kenan Thompson, who is in his eleventh year on the show, has hurt the quality of the sketches even more.  With the departures of more-talented castmembers Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen, Kenan Thompson has been made into the star of the show.  Which is not good at all because he does not possess the fine acting skills to be a leading man.,  His overracting in sketches have made things worse.  What's more, Cecily Strong has proven to be a weak co-anchor on "Weekend Update"; as she possesses no fine comic delivery and her performances when delivering jokes appears forced and not at all natural.  In addition, Colin Jost, who took on the role of co-anchor on March 1st, a month after Seth Meyers left the show to take over hosting "Late Night," has proven to be a poor choice as well- as his overall delivery is very bland and he does not possess any chemistry whatsoever with Cecily Strong.  In short terms, I am very worried about the state of the show right now.

weekend update

It should be said, however, that the only laughs I've gotten from the cast this season are primarily from castmembers Taran Killam and Kate McKinnon; who manage to improve the quality of the sketches with their performances.  In addition, I will say that new featured players Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney have brought a fun dynamic to the show with their chemistry; which has primarily been seen in their short films. However, aside from these four castmembers, there haven't been constantly reliable sources of humor from the rest of the cast this season.  Nevertheless, despite not having a lot of confidence left in the season, I am curious to see how tonight's episode turns out.
