Thank you all for following my blog tonight

That concludes my live-blogging coverage Thank you all for following my blog tonight and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!  Good night everybody!

Well, that's the show. Not a Terrible Show Tonight at All!!

Jim Carrey was easily the best part of the show.  His energetic performances really were a significant part of why tonight's show wasn't bad at all.  Also, it seemed as if most of the cast were trying to improve the quality of the sketches as well.  Taran Killam and Kate McKinnon got good airtime in sketches this week And Leslie Jones got to be showcased well for her first night as a credited castmember.  In addition, Michael Che continues to impress me with his dynamic delivery on "Weekend Update."  I really wish he would be anchoring the weekly segment by himself and that Colin Jost would stick to being just a writer.  Also, some the sketches tonight weren't bad.  Even though the "Jim Carrey Family Reunion" sketch was basically a rehash of a sketch from 2008, I enjoyed seeing the cast act like Carrey and dress up as different roles that Carrey had played in movies.  Also, the best sketches of the night were the "Office Party Costume Conest sketch (mainly due to Jim carrey's and Kate McKinnon's fun performances) as well as the Graveyard sketch (mainly due to Jim Carrey's and Taran Killam's performances).  All in all, not a perfect episode, but still not a terrible episode.

One last sketch

Jim Carrey's the best part of this sketch.  His creepy character was the only funny part. Vanessa bayer and Cecily Strong were alright, though their material wasn't funny at all. Jim Carrey was basically holding the weight of that sketch.  He was a very good host tonight!

Not a great performance by Iggy Azalea at all!! Bring on Prince next week!!!

He'll bring the goods as the musical guest.  The show is almost over.

Jim Carrey's sketch performances have been great tonight

He really out his comedic energy into the show tonight.  The writing of the sketches wasn't great, but his performances really saved the quality of the show.

We are back with Iggy Azalea

She is not a great performer at all.  Her singing voice isn't great all and she's got bad dance moves.  Not a great musical guest at all!

I'm guessing Iggy Azalea's second performance is coming up next

Office Halloween party sketch

Vanessa Bayer's character here isn't funny at all.  Bayer has been having an off year.  The joke of Jim Carrey wearing the same costume as Kate McKinnon's character.  This is basically a one-joke sketch as well.  Though Jim Carrey's performance has alot of energy.  He's really been giving it his all tonight.  Carrey and McKinnon dancing throughout the studio was anice tough to the sketch though.  I always like whenever the host and cast brake the fourth wall by going off stage.  It's agood reminder that SNL is a true variety show and anything can happen when it's live.  I liked Lorne Michael's appearance as well.

Oops. I think a sketch is coming up next.

Iggy Azalea's next performance is coming up

Kenan Thompson's loud 'acting' has been very annoying tonight

Though it's pretty much his typical shtick on the show.  What a shame.  That ending was a tad predictable.  Not too bad of a sketch though.  Would have liked something a little more unexpected though.

This is pretty much a one-joke sketch, though Jim Carrey and Pete Davidson are saving it with their performances

Zombie apocalypse sketch.

At least they are doing some creative ideas for sketches tonight.  I'm glad that Pete Davidson is getting good role in this sketch

That pre-filmed sketch wasn't bad. Leslie Jones is getting good airtime her first episode this season.

Commercials are on now

Jim Carrey's performance was the best part of the sketch

He's been the best part of the sketches in the show.  He's improving the quality of the writing with his comedic performances.

This seems like it could be a good sketch

Jim Carrey is humorous here as his Illuminati character.  He's got a good delivery.  His robotic hand is a humorous addition to the sketch.  The writing isn't terrible in this sketch.

Next sketch is on now

A parody of the reality show "Secret Billionaire."

I have to say that I've been getting more impressed by Michael Che each live show

His quick delivery and personality has COMPLETELY overshadowed Colin Jost's bland brand of comedy.  I wonder if Michael Che will be having main roles in sketches outside of "Weekend Update" any time soon.  I think he would do well with sketch comedy.  On a side note, Vanessa Bayer's new character was not funny at all and Bobby Moynihan's Drunk Uncle bit dragged on too long as usual.

I like Bobby Moynihan in doing more subtle roles on the show.

All his reoccurring characters mainly do is speak way too loudly and just go on too long.

Oh great!! Bobby Moynihan's 'Drunk Uncle' character

Moynihan basically does the same thing over and over again as this character.  His "Drunk Uncle" shtick bas basically grown very old.  This segment always goes on way too long.

I like Michael Che's confused reactions to Vanessa Bayer's character

I'm glad that he offers something different to "Weekend Update" as a co-anchor.  His delivery was perfect and I got some laughs out of his perplexed reactions.  Michael Che should be anchoring "Update" solo and Colin Jost NEEDS to go back to being a behind-the-scenes guy.  Stick to writing, Colin Jost!!!

Vanessa Bayer's new character here isn't very funny

She hasn't been having a good year so far on the show.  Every main sketch she starred in has not been very funny.  She seems to not really offer anything special at all.

I like that Michael Che adds his own twist on telling jokes on 'Update' by doing a mini-stand-up routine following the punch-line

Colin Jost, on the other hand, is basically just not funny at all.

Colin Jost's first joke fell flat.

This guy has no personality AT ALL!!!  Get him off 'Update" now!!

I hope this segment is good

We are back with "Weekend Update"!

"Weekend Update" is coming up next

This performance is not great at all!!

Prince is going to be GREAT next week!! This performance was mediocrity at best!

Now I think she's performing a different song

I haven't heard this one before.

Oh great. She's performing her hit single"Fancy"

I got REALLY tired of this song very quickly.  This song has been over-played way too much on the radio, Vh1, and other television channels.

We are back with Iggy Azalea!

Iggy Azalea's first performance is coming up

That wasn't terrible. At least it was original

The twist of Jim Carrey's Matthew McConaughey running into Kenan Thompson's car insyrance spokesperson was unexpected.  The show is getting a little bit better now.  I hope it continues.

This isn't a bad sketch

At least it's something differnt.  Though I can do without Kenan Thompson's non-funny screaming.

This seems like an entertaining sketch

I'm glafd they are doing a Halloween themed  sketch.  This isn't bad.  Jim Carrey and taran Killam are funny as their not-so-scary characters Paul and Phil.

We are back!!

Next sketch is coming up

They did another spook of Macounaghey's car commercials. I figured they would do more.

I'm excited about Chris Rock hosting next week.  Though I'm sure the writing will not be great at all.  At least he'll most likely give us a great stand-up monologue.

Jeff Daniels' cameo was nice and Ihis impression of Jim Carrey was good as well.

The only difference of this sketch was that the cast played fictional relatives who are being dressed as Carrey's film roles. But other than that, this sketch was practically a rehash.

The premise of this sketch was actually done before.

In Spring 2008, Christopher Walken hosted and they did a sketch where the cast of that period all played fictional relatives of him-- who all takked and mimicked his mannerisms.  This sketch isn't exactly original in its setup.  The writers are lazy as usua;.

Jim Carrey reunion sketch

Taran Killam's impression of Jim Carrey is good.  The basic premose of the sketch is that the cast are playing fictional relatives of Jim Carrey.  I see.

We are back!!

First sketch is coming up!

Commercials are on now

I hope the sketches get funnier tonight.

Jim Carrey's impression of Matthew McCoughnahey is good here

I like that "Saturday Night Live" is spoofing these ads  I wonder if there will be any more of these tonight.

Sarah Silverman's monologue was the only non-musical monologue this season do gat

Jim Carrey's performance is good.  But I wish SNL would have done something completely different and unique with Jim Carrey hosting.

Another Musical monologue this season??!! I'm sensing a trend for this season right now

Jim Carrey's performance here is alright.  His Though I was hoping for something a little funnier for his monologue.  His Elvis voice is good though.

Hopefully Jim

Jim Carrey is wearing a Halloween costume for his monologue.  That's pretty cool.

I hope tonight's show is good, but I have doubts due to the bad writing of the sketches

Also, SNL writer leslie Jones joins the cast as a featured player with this episode.

Thompson's performance is alright, but the material just isn't very funny

Not a very special opening at all.

Kenan Thompson's impression of Rev Sharpton is alright, bur the material isn't bery funny

These opening sketches this season haven't been very funny or memorable at all.

Jim Carrey would probably do something a little more special for this opening with his performance

Taran Killam is doing alright.  But the material just isn't that funny.

I wish they would do something special and have Jim Carrey play McLaine

An opening about President Obama appointing the new Ebola Zhaire

Jay Pharoah's impression of President Obama is alright.  Taran Killam is doing alright with the material.  But the material is just alright.

We Are Live....NOW!!!!

We Are Live In Just a Little Bit!!

Stay tuned!!!

It's Getting To That Time!

Jim Carrey will host Saturday Night Live with musical guest Iggy Azalea on October 14, 2014.

Tonight I am Live-Blogging "Saturday Night Live"!

This evening at 11:30pm, I will be covering the fourth episode of Season Forty of "Saturday Night Live: featuring Guest Host Jim Carrey and Musical Guest Iggy Azalea. Carrey will be hosting the long-running variety series for his third time while Azalea will be performing on the show for her first time.

Jim Carrey will host Saturday Night Live with musical guest Iggy Azalea on October 14, 2014.

Jim Carrey first hosted "Saturday Night Live" on May 18th of 1996-- which happened to be the season finale of the series' twenty-first season.  The episode ended up being a classic and also solidified Will Ferrell, who joined the show at the start of the season, as a valuable performer  Jim Carrey was hosting the show at the peak of his film career; right after starring in movies like "Ace Ventura:  Pet Detective", "The Mask", and "Dumb and Dumber"; all of which had been released in 1994 and emerged as comedic hits at the box office.  Jim Carrey performed keenly in the evening's sketches.  The most memorable of which was a segment which featured the comic actor playing a wild club patron along with Will Ferrell's and Chris Kattan's popular head-bopping characters known as "The Roxbury Guys."  The sketch was a lot of fun; particularly due to the wild energy Jim Carrey shared with the two "Saturday Night Live" castmembers, as well as the overall set-up of the piece- which was the three club hoppers crashing a high school prom and a party at a retirement center following their attending of a night club.  Another memorable sketch of the night featured Carrey playing an overprotective lifeguard; who was constantly keeping an eye on a perplexed Jacuzzi user; played by Will Ferrell.  Carrey and Ferrell possessed great comedic chemistry and it was a delight watching the sketch become more and more crazy as it progressed.  I just wish that Jim Carrey had hosted the show once more before Will Ferrell left-- just so we could have seen them star in sketches together again.

To see the Jacuzzi sketch with Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell, here is the link:  https://screen.yahoo.com/jim-carrey-snl-skits/jacuzzi-lifeguard-000000172.html

Jim Carrey wouldn't host "Saturday Night Live" again until January 8th of 2011.  This time, the show proved to be not as memorable; due to the quality of writing declining dramatically.  I remember watching the episode, wishing that the writers gave him better material to work with that would have properly Jim Carrey to properly use his wild brand of physical comedy properly.  The best sketch of the night was a piece where Carrey and castmember Taran Killam played two sinister-looking animatronic amusement park ride robots that occasionally came alive and terrified a passenger; played by castmember Kenan Thompson.  The sketch was particularly enjoyable due to the physical performances of Killam and Carrey; both of whom genuinely looked convincing as their characters.  The piece was enjoyable in its performances and writing.  And unfortunately, Jim Carrey wouldn't host again for another three years.

Which brings us to tonight's show.  Jim Carrey is hosting to promote "Dumb and Dumber To"; the much-anticipated sequel to the original comedic film.  Carrey is re-teaming once again with co-star Jeff Daniels; to play lovable dimwits Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne respectively.  Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels possessed great comedic chemistry in the 1994 film and audiences are eagerly awaiting to see the two characters engage in crazy hijinks once again.  Hopefully"Dumb and Dumber To", which opens nationwide on November 14th, is fun movie and a worthy follow-up to its classic predecessor.  It would be a lot of fun to see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels portray their characters on tonight's episode; allowing audiences to enjoy their fun comedic chemistry in one of the evening's sketches or maybe even on "Weekend Update".  All we can do is wait and see.

That concludes my live-blogging coverage!

Thank you all for following my blog tonight.  I would like to see Sarah Silverman host again when the writing is ever better.  Thank you all for your support.  Have a good night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!

That's pretty much the whole show

Tonight's episode was basically a mixed bag.  Sarah Silverman was an alright host.  Though I wish that she got better writing.  The best live sketches tonight was basically the "Forgotten TV Gems" sketch.  I am also now convinced that Michael Che shou;d be anchoring "weekend Update" solo.  He has much more personality than Colin Jost and he has more energy as well.  The writing isn't great at all, though. I am REALLY hoping  that Bill Hader gets great sketches next week.  I miss seeing him regularly on SNL.  So next week should be a good show.

This sketch is just dragging. Not a great way to close out tonight's show.

Thanks a lot, SNL writers!!  You are not great at all.

Vanessa Bayer gets to star in the final sketch of the show two weeks in a row

This sketch isn't very funny though.  Vanessa Maber's material is not great at all.  Sarah Silverman is basically playing the straight role in this sketch.  I wish she got something funnier for her final role on tonight's show.

We are back with the last sketch tonight!

The show is almost over

They have time for one more sketch.  Let's hope it's a good one to close out the show.

So Maroon 5 have now been on SNL 5 times!

They are now officially in the '5-Timers Club' now.  Good for them.

I think they are performing their song "Maps"

This isn't a bad performance.  I like thisone a little better than their first one tonight.

We are back with Maroon 5!

Maroon 5's second performance is coming up

That wasn't a bad pre-filmed sketch

Commercials are on now.  This hasn't been an entirely bad show so far tonight..  At least the sketches are more creative than last week's.  The writing still isn't great and Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost have proven to be the weakest performers in the cast so far this season.  They need to go.

Good to see Kyle Mooney star in another pre-taped sketch

Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney always have good chemistry.  They are good additions to the show.

Even Kenan Thompson's voice-overs are not funny at all!

This isn't a bad sketch. ThAdam Levine's cameo is pretty funny.  The writing of this sketch isn't bad.  The performances of the castmembers and Sarah Silverman and Adam Levine are good.

Hopefully this is a good sketch

Bobby Moynihan seems to be rather underused so far this season.

We are back!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on npw

The performances of most of the cast are good tonight, the writing hasn't been entirely funny tonight

Performances are better than the show's writing.  The bad writers need to be cleared out of the building and leave the good ones to take full reign of the show.

TGood performances from Cecily Strong, Sasheer Zamata and Sarah Silverman

The writing, however, isn't great though.  I blame the writers for that, of course.

Hopefully, this is a good sketch

Kenan Thompson is not funny at all.  HJe needs to leave SNL NOW!!!

We are back!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

The writing isn't very great. But Sarah Silverman and Kate McKinnon gave good performances

Mixed edition of "Weekend Update" tonight.  However, Michael Che has truly emerged as the MUCH BETTER "Weekend Update" anchor.  Colin Jost needs to stay behind the camera.  The guy hardly has any stage presence at all.  Michael Che should be anchoring "Weekend Update" solo.

Good to see Sarah Silverman on "Weekend Update"

Kate McKinnon is quite talented.  She can play the guitar and she can sing also.  She is the most talented female castmember on the show right now.

Michael Che is truly outshining Colin Jost. They should just Michael be the solo anchor

Colin Jost is just a disappointment.

Not a funny segment at all

Michael Che's material isn't great.  But he's got the stage presence and personality needed to be a "Weekend Update" anchor.

This featured segment is dragging too much

Colin Jost has no dynamic in his delivery AT ALL this week!!

Just when I thought he was getting better on "Weekend Update" last week.  What a shame.

Kenan Thompson's shtick has REALLY gotten old!!!

Colin Jost was a little better last week. Now he's back to being his lifeless and bland self.

Oh great.  Now we get Kenan Thompson as Reveran Al Sharpton.  Not a great impression at all.

Colin Jost showed some improvement last week. This week, however, he seems a little like he was last season

Michael Che, however, is getting into the groove of things already.  He's got a good delivery.

We are back with Tonight's edition of "Weekend Update"

Let's hope it's a good one.

Commercials are on now

"Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che" should be coming up next

AI like seeing Adam Levine on "The Voice". He offers very good advice to the contestants.

This is an alright performance.  They are at least better than Ariana Grande was last week.

I really like Maroon 5's earlier music

When they first came out, they had a more R & B / Alternative Rock sound.  However, their latter albums became more Pop-Music sounding, and thus sound like most music on the radio now.

Maroon 5 is performing their current single "Animals"

I think the crew of SNL built a new stage for the musical guests this season.  It's hard for me to tell with all of the lighting effects.

We are back with Maroon 5!

Maroon 5's first performance is coming up

This hasn't been an entirely bad show so far.

Most of that last sketch was good and there have been a few other laugh-worthy moments so far.

I like all the fake-outs here.

The performances of Sarah Silverman and the female castmembers are good.  Kenan Thompson, however, just turned in a performance like all of his other routines.

This isn't a bad sketch. Kenan Thompson is the only unamusing part of this sketch

This seems alright so far

Okay.  That is humorous.  Their facial reactions and corny music was chuckle-worthy.  Though Kenan Thompson is NOT FUNNY AT ALL!!!

Hopefully, this is a good sketch

Kenan Thompson's material is not fummy.

We are back!!

Next sketch is coming up

I am VERY EXCITED about seeing Bill Hader host SNL next week!!

He is going to be GREAT!!  I can't wait for that show!  Commercials are on now.

Sarah Silverman's impression of Joan Rivers is alright

Kate McKinnon's impression of Lucille Balle is good.  I'm surprised that SNL did a sketch involving Joan Rivers so soon after her death.  The bumper was a sweet touch at the end,

This seems like a creative idea

Jay Pharoah's impression of Richard Pryor was alright.  And I liked Sasheer Zamata's impression of Eartha Kitt.

We are back!!

Next sketch is coming up

At least they are trying to be relevant with that parody

Commercials on now.  Not a great opening and only the second hjalf of the monologue was humorous.  Hopefully the show gets better.

I never saw "The Fault in Our Stars", though I know what the movie was about from reading articles

The twist idea that it's the Ebola Virus instead of Cancer is a creative idea.

I liked Sarah Silverman's "all of Maroon 5 is here" line

The first part of this monologue wasn't great at all.  Though the second half was funnier.

I like that she's addressing her short-term on the show

The pre-taped footage of Sarah Silverman from 1993 is pretty funny.  I like how she's poking fun at the fact that she frequently played fake audience members in monologues from her year on the show.

I'm not very impressed with that monologue, unfortunately.

I guess I'm not that familiar with Sarah Silverman's brand of comedy.

This isn't very funny.  Sarah Silverman's material isn't very hilarious.

Sarah Silverman going into the audience is alright, I guess.

But it reminds me a little bit of when Vince vaughn hosted back in 2013.  Though his monologue was hilarious!!  This isn't very funny, though.

The blurred-out cue card was a cute sight gag

I wouldn't be surprised if she does a stand-up monologue tonight

Welcome back to SNL, Sarah Silverman!

Twenty years back on the show after her one season as a featured player.

The joke about the White House's security not being great at preventing tresspassors from getting close to the White House was alright, I guess

Not a particularly great opening, however.  Performances were good, though.  Darrell Hammond's voice-over for the montage is a little better than last week's.

So far, I'm not laughing. That's not a great sign

The Twitter jokes are alright, but not particularly great

That Isis/Zach Braff joke wasn't particularly funny.  The writing isn't very funny, unfortunately.

The writing isn't particularly great so far

The performances are good though.

We open with a 60 Minutes

Good to see featured player Beck Bennett in the cold opening.  Jay Pharoah's impression of President Obama is good as always.

And We Are Live......NOW!!!!!

We Are Live in Just Ten Minutes!!

Stay tuned!

It's Getting To That Time!

Do not miss my live-blogging coverage of tonight's all-new episode of "Saturday Night Live"; featuring Guest Host Sarah Silverman and Musical Guest Maroon 5.

Sarah Silverman is returning to the long-running variety series after twenty years.  From Fall of 1993 to Spring of 1994, Sarah Silverman was a featured player.  I do not remember much of what she did on the show; as she basically played supporting roles in sketches.  Since leaving "Saturday Night Live", however, her stand-up comedy has taken off very strongly.  She also starred on the Comedy Central Series "The Sarah Silverman Program"; which aired from 2007 until 2010.  I am curious to see what kind of sketches she will appear in as well as how her comedy will mix with the sketch-writing of "Saturday Night Live."

As for Maroon 5, they are making their fifth appearance as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live".  In addition, this will be Adam Levine's first appearance back on the long-running variety show since he hosted on January 26, 2013.  I remember that Adam Levine wasn't a particularly great host; as I remember was constantly looking at the cue cards throughout the night and he also didn't seem to be very energetic in most of the live sketches.  However, I do enjoy Adam Levine's participation as a vocal coach on NBC's "The Voice"; as he offers great advice to all the contestants and he has very good chemistry with his fellow coaches; particularly with Blake Shelton.  If he does appear in any live sketches tonight, I hope Adam Levine displays genuine energy like he does on "The Voice"-- and  does not let us down like he did when he hosted "Saturday Night Live"

That concludes my live-blogging coverage.

Thank you all for following my blog this evening.   Have a good night, everybody.  Stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!

All in all, not an entirely great way to start the season

Chris Pratt was a good host; though he wasn't given the best material to work with.  It seems like the writers are still using the concept of stretching out a joke in a sketch in order to fill up the designated runtime.  The cast isn't bad but the material just isn't great.  The show got a little better later on in the show, but the closing sketch wasn't anything amazing.  Michael Che shows potential as a "Weekend Update" anchor and Colin Jost showed some improvement in his delivery.  The writing still isn't great either.  I'm not entirely excited about how this season will go.

The joke of this sketch is very predictable at this point.

Chris Pratt and Vanessa Bayer are giving good performances.  The joke just wasn't very funny.  Though I will also say that Pete Davidson shows some potential as a new castmember.  He's got some energy. That sketch wasn't a great way to end the show.

We are back!

This seems like it could be a creative sketch.  Oh, I take it back.  The joke of the two video game characters making love wasn't very funny.

Not an amazing performance by Ariana Grande

Commercials are on now.  The show is almost over.

Ariana Grande's performances aren't anything special

Hopefully Maroon 5's performances are better next week.

YAriana Grande is back on

I still can't understand much of what she's saying.  She needs learn how to enunciate her words more when singing.  Ariana Grande is not an entirely great singer.

Ariana Grande's second performance is coming up

Nice to see Leslie Jones and Colin Jost on as well. Even though this sketch was basically just a simple joke and set=up, all the performances were good.

That wasn't terrible.  The episode has gotten a tad better in the latter portion  of the night.

We are back!

Another NFL-themed sketch.  Alright.  This isn't a bad sketch all.  Good way to use all the male castmembers.  And I'm happy to see Michael Che in a sketch outside of "Weekend Update" on his first show.

Next sketch is coming up

That was a good pre-tapped sketch.

I'm looking forward to seeing Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney star in more sketches this season.  I am glad they are back.

Good to see Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney star in a new short film

I'm glad they are back this season.  And the concept of this sketch is actually interesting.  This is the first genuinely creative piece of the show so far. Chris Pratt is also good in this sketch.

This sketch is very bland and not funny at all

Just a waste of talent.  Not great at all

Aidy Bryant and Chris Pratt are giving alright performances

But the writing is not very good and the basic set-up of this sketch is very predicatble.  Just no real surprises whatsoever.

Chris Pratt is a good singer, though the basic joke is that they sing inapprptiate lyrics when they are nervous

I could swear that  this kind of sketch was done before on "Saturday Night Live" some other season.

We are back!

This sketch isn't great so far.  Just an excuse for Aidy Bryant too sing in a foul-mouthed manner.  My guess is Chris Pratt will as well.

Commercials are on now

Michael Che has energy. I think he will be a good co-amchor

And Colin Jost wasn't terrible.  He has clearly shown some improvement tonight.  Hopefully this is a sign that he will be more enjoyable this season.

Colin Jost's "Hobbit" joke was actually humorous

Pete Davidson did alright in his firt "Update" commentart

I''m noticing that Colin Jost has improved a little bit in his delivery. Also, Michael Che is doing alright with this segment. Though I'm not crazy about Kenan Thompson's singing in this.  Just an excuse to get him on "Update"

Wow! Three commentaries on "Weekend Update" this episode. Long first "Update" of the season

Good to see Pete Davidson make an appearance on "Weekend Update" on the season premier.  He has a good stage presence but the writing isn't alright.  He has energy though.

That was alright.

The writing isn't great at all.  Michael Che is doing alright in his first appearance on "Update".  Hopefully the writing gets better as the season goes on.  Though I have very little hope about that,

They brought back Leslie Jones on "Weekend Update"

Her commentary this past season was popular amongst viewers.  She is one of the writers on the show.  The writing of her segment isn't great, but's she's giving a good performance.  I'm surprised she wasn't added to the show as a cast member.

The writing has not improved at all so far this season

This segment went on WAY TOO long!

Oh great! With Cecily Strong no longer an anchor, she can bring back this character

Cecily Strong is NOT funny as this character at all.  In fact, she is borderline annoying.  She is unable to elevate the quality of the bad writing.

Michael Che has a good stage presence and he seems more confident than Colin Jost first started

I'm hoping Colin Jost and Colin Jost have good comedic chemistry

We are Back woth "Weekend Update"

Commercials are on now, "Weekend Update" is coming up next

This show isn't great at all so far.  I hope Michael Che brings new life to "Weekend Update."

I hope the musical guests get better as the season goes on/

That wasn't very great at all.

I can't understand most of what Ariana Grande is singing

The only part I understand is the lyric "This is the part where I break free".  Otherwise, I have no idea what she is seeing.

My main problem with Ariana Grande is that she raises her voice TOO high when she sings

It'

Ariana Grande is coming up

I'm not crazy about her music at all!

Now they are just blatently making insulting Marvel

This is not funny AT ALL!!!! The writers of Marvel Comics films are VASTLY SUPERIOR to the current writers of "Saturday Night Live".  This show is TERRIBLE so far!!!  As of now, I have VERY LITTLE hope oin how this season is going to unfold!!!

Not much to say about that sketch except it was terrible.

The show is back

They are bringing back the idiotic veterinarians from the Josh Hutcherson episode from this past November.  And the "joke" is that they tell their visitors that their pets are dead and then ask them to sign a form confirming they heard the news.  This is just another occurrence of SNL's constant copy-and-paste  method for their sketches today.

The show will be back soon

Commercials are on now

I'm very disappointed with this show so far. It seems like we are in a continuation of this past season

So far, the writing isn't very great. Just a bunch of jokes about how the characters are unfamiliar with the real world

Now they are just relying on sexual humor to get easy laughs.  I'm am aghast at how badly written this sketch is.  The performances are alright but the humor is just not there.  That was an abrupt ending.  Not a funny sketch at all.

This is a simple premise

Chrs Pratt playing He-Man and Taran Killam is playing Lion-O from "Thundercats."

The show is back from commercials now

So far, this season premier is not great at all

I was hoping for something more special to kick off such a milestone season.  In fact, there was no mention at all of this being the 40th season of SNL whatsoever.  I am VERY disappointed so far. This further strengthens my feeling that the writers just do not care anymore.  This REALLY angers me!!!!

This is a very poor idea for a commercial parody

It's an example of "Saturday Night Live" using sex-related humor for getting easy laughs from the audience.

He's a talented singer

I'm not surprised to see Anna Faris cameoing. She hosted the show twice

Chris Pratt is doing well so far

I'm glad they are letting him doing a musical monologue.  He played guitar as his character "Andy Dwyer" on "Parks and Recreation."

The new opening montage is alright

I expected a little something more from Darrell Hammond for his announcing style.  I'm surprised Colin Jost is still a featured player.  I figured they would promote him considering that he has been with the show as a writer for a long time.

This opening is now dragging on a bit too long

Mot a great opening to kick off the new season.

But I'm glad that Chris Pratt is in the opening. His performance is good

But the writing is not great at all.

Jay Pharoah's impression of Shannon Sharp is alright

But the material is not very funny.

So far, the writing is not very funny so far

I wanted something creative.  I'm disappointed so far.

The performances are alright so far but I wanted something special

I'm actually surprised they are doing something about the Ray Rice scandel

Well, I am VERY DISAPPOINTed they are not doing a very special opening to kick off the 40th season

Instead it's going to be a parody of Ray Rice's address.

And We Are Live....NOW!!!!!!

We are live in just a little bit!

Stay tuned!!  It's almost showtime.  See you at 11:30pm!!

It's Getting To That Time!

At 11:30pm, my live-blogging of tonight's season premier of "Saturday Night Live" will begin!  I am truly hoping we are given a special episode to mark the beginning of the fortieth season of the long-running NBC variety series.  Hopefully, no matter what, the opening features Executive Producer Lorne Michaels welcoming us to Season 40 and mentions Don Pardo's legacy and formally introduces Darrell Hammond as the show's new announcer.  But, no matter what, I just want a good show.

So, be sure to have your televisions set to NBC by 11:30pm and have my blog on your computers.  Be sure to keep refreshing your computer screens so you can see my latest comments. Feel free to share your own thoughts by clicking the "Comment" link underneath any of my posts.  Your feedback means a lot and I look forward to seeing your opinions.

From the Mind of Nate: Why I Am Worried About and Excited For Season 40 of "Saturday Night Live"

NBC's "Saturday Night Live" truly is on life support.  As you know from my live-blogging of this past season, I am filled with immense dissatisfaction with the current state of the long-running variety season.  While previous seasons have featured weak episodes, I was able to enjoy at least two or even one genuinely funny sketch.  However, throughout a majority  Season Thirty-Nine of "Saturday Night Live,"  I found myself struggling to find at least one funny sketch.  Of the twenty-one episodes that have aired this past season, I only found certain elements of certain episodes to be remotely funny.  For instance, I enjoyed seeing Guest Host Paul Rudd be joined with his "Anchorman" co-stars Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and David Koechner for a singing of "Afternoon Delight" with Musical Guest One Direction on December 7 of this past year.  I also enjoyed the hosting and musical performances of Lady Gaga; who demonstrated good comedic timing in sketches when appearing on the November 16th episode.  What's more, I did love the fun chemistry of Guest Host Jimmy Fallon and Musical Guest Justin Timberlake when both took the stage on December 21st. Seeing them perform together in sketches was fun; particularly during the show's cold opening- in which they donned gift-wrap mascot costumes and performed holiday-parodies of popular songs.  And , keep in mind, these are only certain aspects of episodes that contained only at least one humorous sketch.  The only episode this past season that could be considered a mostly good one aired on May 3rd when Andrew Garfield hosted for his time.  The "Spider-Man" actor demonstrated keen enthusiasm throughout the episode; especially during a sketch in which he played a wedding reception guest who awkwardly professed his love for the bride, played by castmember Cecily Strong. despite already being married and having four children.  The setup for the sketch's punchline was well-written and Garfield's performance was great.  However, despite these highlights, Season Thirty-Nine of "Saturday Night Live" was truly a misfire.

Which brings me to my main point.  As Season 40 is set to kick off tonight at 11:30pm, I am very skeptical for how this season is going to turn out.  What follows now are the specific drawbacks that are still present on the show that make me worried about this upcoming season:

1.   Kenan Thompson s STILL on the show!!!:  This past season, there was a noticeable void in the talent field since longtime talented castmembers Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen left the show after Season Thirty-Eight.  To fill that void, Kenan Thompson, who had been on the show since Fall of 2003, was shoehorned into being the designates "star" of "Saturday Night Live."  Thompson was thrown into nearly every sketch; whether it be in a starring role or even a minor bit role that could have been played by any of the new featured players that were brought on to the show. Throughout the season, Kenan Thompson's brand of comedy was shoved down the audience's throats.  The longtime performer's comedic skills mainly consisted of him speaking his lines in an obnoxiously-loud manner to reacting to the antics of his fellow castmember's characters.  It should be mentioned that Thompson's reaction expressions mainly consisted of him bulging his eyes in a forced comedic style. Thompson's shtick wore extremely thin very quickly, and it got to the point where I would just groan whenever he trotted out one of his typical "comedic" moves.  Now in his thirteenth season,Kenan Thompson is most likely to continue with his tired routines. Hopefully, Executive Producer Lorne Michaels as well as the show's writers make an attempt to scale back Kenan Thompson's starring roles in sketches; considering that the sketch performer does not possess the proper talents needed to be the long-running variety program's official leading man.   Though, I do have very little faith in this actually happening.

2.  Colin Jost Will Still Be On "Weekend Update"- This past February, longtime "Saturday Night Live" castmember and "Weekend Update" anchor Seth Meyers stepped down to take over as the host of NBC's "Late Night" as Jimmy Fallon went on to assume the role of host of "The Tonight Show."  Stepping in to fill Seth Meyers's spot at the "Update" desk was the show's current head writer Colin Jost.  Right away, Colin Jost was a rather poor choice to take over; as the writer-turned-performer possessed a very bland stage presence.  When first appearing on "Weekend Update" this past March, Colin Jost noticeably had a difficult time making eye contact with the cameras; appearing very awkward on the stage.  In addition, Jost possessed a very lifeless presence on-air and he spoke his jokes in a manner devoid of any comedic timing or even any personality at all.  In other words, Colin Jost appeared as more of a robot-like entity rather than a genuine performer.  What's more, throughout the rest of the season, Colin Jost possessed no comedic chemistry with co-anchor Cecily Strong; who started out as Seth Meyers' co-host on the weekly news parody segment when the season started on September 28, 2013.  Throughout the remainer of the season, Colin Jost and Cecily Strong just did not click as a team; as they possessed no dynamic whatsoever; thus making "Weekend Update" one of the main aspects as to why Season Thirty-Nine was not very good at all.  I'm truly wishing that Colin Jost improves his stage presence this year; though I have doubt that he will.

3.  I'm still worried about the writing of the sketches:  This past season, it has become abundantly clear that the sketch writing of "Saturday Night Live" is nowhere as good as it used to be. Now we see sketches that basically rely on one simple joke that is repeated over and over in an attempt to fill time.  For instance, on January 25 of this year, Guest Host Jonah Hill appeared in a sketch where he played an employee going to his boss' house for dinner.  The main joke of the sketch was that Hill's character would keep excusing himself to go to the restroom so he can yell loudly at himself whenever he feels that he did something foolish.  The joke immediately grew tired and the whole piece just limped to its conclusion.  In addition, on March 1 of this year, Guest Host Jim Parsons starred in a sketch taking place in an elevator of a company and Guest Host Jim Parsons played an employer who was holding his own soiled undergarments in a bag while his employees would step inside and complain about the terrible smell present.  The sketch's premise just was so completely juvenile in nature and I felt embarrassed for Jim Parsons that he was starring in such a poorly-written piece.  It should also be mentioned that there is hardly any effort to change the format of reoccurring sketches any more.  Fr instance, the reoccurring segment "Girlfriends Talk Show" basically features the same rundown each time it airs: talk-show co-host "Morgan", played by "Saturday Night Live" castmember Aidy Bryant, would bring on her new friend, played by the variety show's guest host, only for co-host "Kyria", played by Cecily Strong, to steal their guest away from her co-host.  The rundown  became more predictable each time the sketch was executed; so much so, that the whole segment was basically just a waste in time and talent.  It's instances like all of these that make me think that sketch writers of "Saturday Night Live" basically do not care about creating predictable sketches anymore.  And that truly infuriates me!

Thus, these three factors truly make me apprehensive about tonight's season premier of "Saturday Night Live."  However, it should be mentioned that there are still some factors to take into consideration.  After all, "Saturday Night Live" is entering it's 40th year; which truly is a milestone.  Thus, I am looking forward to seeing what Executive Producer Lorne Michaels have in store for such an important year.  There have been a lot of articles surfacing up on the Internet over the past couple weeks that make me wonder if the long-running program will be doing anything special for this anniversary season.  Thus, I am still feeling some excitement and anticipation for the new season.  And, what's more, there still are some things that I am looking forward to seeing in Season 40:

1.  There are still some genuinely comedic performers left on the show:  Following the departures of
very skilled performers like Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, a couple castmembers have proven that they are very talented as well.  For instance, this past season has proven that the Kate McKinnon; who joined the long-running variety series in April of 2012, has proven to be quite skilled at portraying characters and exhibiting impressions-- especially the latter.  Throughout this past season, Kate McKinnon has brought forward good impressions; such as Former United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen sebelius as wel as actress jane Lynch.  However, it was on January 18 of this year that Kate McKinnon debuted her greatest impression-- that of singer-trouble-make Justin Bieber.  Right when McKinnon appeared on screen, I thought it was the actual Justin Bieber himself!   However, when I realized it was Kate McKinnon portraying Justin Bieber, I let out a series of genuine laughs.  It is no wonder that Kate McKinnon is my favorite actress currently on "Saturday Night Live."  As for the male cast, I must admit that Taran Killam, who has been on the long-running variety series since Fall of 2010, has proven to be the most skilled.  Throughout the past season, Taran Killam has been able to elevate the poor quality of badly-written sketches with his comedic performances.   For instance, on April 5, Taran Killam [layed a muscular-looking character named "Big Joe"; who was unable to lift heavy rocks off a trapped villager; played by castmember Bobby Moynihan.  Despite the great size of the character, Killam's "Big Joe" was unable to lift the heavy rocks as well as anything else he tried to pick up-- constantly sheepishly saying "I Can't do it" in a hilariously comedic deep-voiced manner. And despite the obvious joke, Killam's performance made me genuinely laugh throughout the sketch's duration.  In addition, the "Saturday Night Live" castmember has demonstrated good impressions throughout the previous season.  One in particular is his portrayal of news man Piers Morgan.  In the sketches, Killam, as Morgan, would rapidly repeat the first word of some of his sentences in a humorously flustered manner.  Though the sketches weren't greatly-written, Killam's performance truly helped make the quality better.  Thus, both Kate McKinnon and Taran Killam have proven to be the most reliable castmembers currently on "Saturday Night Live", and I hope they get plenty of opportunities to star in creative sketches this season.

Unapologetic: Justin Bieber, played by Kate McKinnon, claimed throwing eggs at homes is 'a tradition in Canada'

2. "Weekend Update" is Getting a Semi-Revamping:  As I mentioned above when discussing my thoughts regarding Colin Jost, "Weekend Update" was a big component as to why Season Thirty-Nine of "Saturday Night Live" was  not great at all.  Well, I am now semi-optimistic bout the weekly news parody segment this season.  It has been announced that Cecily Strong, who served as co-anchor to Seth Meyers from September to February and then Colin Jost, starting from March to the end of the season, will no longer be on "Weekend Update."  Throughout this past season, I was not crazy at all about Cecily Strong's performance. When telling punchlines, she would often speak her punchlines  that was hardly humorous-- basically speaking in a semi-loud voice and enunciating her words in forced manner.  What's more, she did not possess any comedic chemistry whatsoever with Seth Meyers; thus making their pairing seem very fake and boring.  And, as previously mentioned, I was not very enthusiastic about her pairing up with Colin Jost either.  So, now that Cecily Strong is no longer on "Weekend Update," I am hopin she focuses more on her comedic acting in sketches.  Maybe I will enjoy her more on the show this season now that she concentrate on just the sketches given to her.  And taking  over for Cecily Strong on "Weekend Update" is Michael Che; who spent this past summer being a corespondent on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."  I saw some of Che's work on the Comedy Central program and, in my opinion, I think he will be a good edition on "Weekend Update."  First and foremost, Michael Che has personality and energy; unlike Colin Jost- who speaks his dialogue in a genuinely emotionally-devoid manner.  What's more, from what I have seen from his work on "The Daily Show," it is clear that Michael Che has keen comedic energy that will be useful on "Saturday Night Live."  If his performance on "Weekend Update" proves to be success full, maybe Michael Che will be put into some sketches as the season progresses.  But no matter what, I am looking forward to seeing Michael Che on "Weekend Update."  I'm just curious to see how his comedic chemistry with Colin Jost will turn out.  This will be a pairing that I am very curious about seeing.

Jon Stewart gives Michael Che the proper send off as he departs "The Daily Show"

3.  Darrell Hammond is Returning to "Saturday Night Live";  Over this past summer, Don Pardo, who has served as the announcer for almost every year of "Saturday Night Live",passed away at the age of Ninety-Six.  We all remember Pardo's enthusiastically saying "It's Saturday Night Live"! and announcing the cast, host, and musical guests during the opening credits montage.  His presence will be greatly missed on "Saturday Night Live."  However, filling in the role of the announcer will be Darrell Hammond; who served as a castmember from 1995 to 2009-- solidifying him as the longest-running castmember on the long-running variety show. Hammond was greatly skilled at performing impressions; such as ABC News Anchor Ted Koppel, original "James Bond" actor Sean Connery, and, perhaps his most popular,  Former President Bill Clinton.  From what I have read online, Darrell Hammond will not be mimicking Don Pardo's announcing style but will indtead be doing the voice-over in his own way.  I am looking forward to seeing Darrell Hammond back on "Saturday Night Live"; and I would not be surprised to see him pop up in sketches every once in a while to reprise one of his well-known impressions.

So, there you are.  The reasons why I am both worried for and excited about Season 40 of "Saturday Night Live."  And the milestone season begins tonight; with actor Chris Pratt hosting for his first time.  Pratt has been seen this summer in the hit-blockbuster "Guardians of the Galaxy"; in which he played roguish space thief "Peter Quill" (aka "Star-Lord).  In the movie, Chris Pratt  brought forward an engaging performance that officially became his breakout movie role. I am looking forward to seeing Chris Pratt host tonight; as he's proven to have keen comedic acting abilities as seen from his performance in "Guardians of the Galaxy" as well as his role of happy-go-lucky government worker "Andy Dwyer" on the NBC series "Parks and "Recreation"; which stars Former "Saturday Night Live" Castmember Amy Poehler as "Leslie Knope"- the Director of the Pawnee Parks Department.  Chris Pratt is one of the series main castmembers of the series and often exhibits his fun sense of comedic timing as his character.  I truly hope that Chris Pratt is given good sketches tonight; as he's a very likable performer and he possesses a lot of genuine energy.  It should be mentioned that I would not be surprised if Amy Poehler makes an appearance at some point during tonight's show.  But no matter what, I just want a fun show tonight to kick off Season 40 of "Saturday Night Live".

Film Review: "Guardians of the Galaxy"

(Warning:  The following review contains a lot of spoilers!)

The movie-going public today have come to expect a lot from movies based on comic book series.  For starters, moviegoers always anticipate exciting action sequences in which heroes and villains square off in an intense fashion.  Also, audiences can also look forward to seeing actresses and actors play their roles in a style that captures the essence of how their characters behave in the comic book series of which the movie is based.  What's more- and this is of the utmost importance for a comic book movie to be completely successful- audiences expect an enthralling story rich in twists and turns that keep audiences on the edge of their seats throughout the film's duration.  All of these aspects are heavily expected by moviegoers in today's age. However, in the current era of Hollywood blockbusters, a new aspect has come into play that audiences can look forward to when visiting their local theater.  I am talking about   I'm talking about the aspect of genuine humor being utilized to entertain audiences.

And thanks to Marvel Studios,  audiences can view big budget action films that have moments of comedy interspersed with action packed sequences. Marvel Studios have accomplished this feat by signing on charismatic performers to portray their respected superheroes. In addition, screenwriters have written scripts that contain some humorous dialogue as well as scene descriptions that deliver sincere laughter from crowds when witnessing the performers' on-screen personas act them out on the big screen.  In most instances, these moments of hilarity are sprinkled out ever so slightly during the film; thus delivering quick laughs..However, unlike 2008's "Iron Man", 2012's "The Avengers", and this year's release of "Captain America:  The Winter Soldier", Director and Screenwriter James Gunn has delivered to audiences a blockbuster that, while consisting of plenty of action and a serious plotline, contains plenty of humor that further satisfies the audience.  I'm talking about "Guardians of the Galaxy"; which features a core cast of likable characters that moviegoers are able to root for- thanks in large part to the acting as well as the enjoyable chemistry of the main cast.  Combined with a screenplay written by Gunn and Nicole Perlman that is rich in humor and heart as well as beautiful computerized imagery, I can honestly say that:

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is an Intergalactic Ride of Humor, Thrills, and Emotion!

Released on August 1st, "Guardians of the Galaxy" tells the story of Peter Quill; who, as a child who is abducted from Earth, following the death of his mother by a group of intergalactic criminals known as the Ravagers; led by Yondu Udonta, boisterously played by Michael Rooker, who raises Quill as one of his own.  Years after his abduction, Peter Quill, played spiritedly by Chris Pratt, is a brash space thief. Arriving at a mysterious planet, Quill uncovers and steals a sacred orb in an ancient temple.  Using his wits and his cunning, Quill escapes Korath, played by Djimon Hounson, an associate of the treacherous villain Ronan the Accuser; fiercely played by Lee Pace.  Some time after his excape, Chris Pratt's Peter Quill attempts to pawn off the orb on the planet Xandar.  However, he is surprise-attacked by Gamora, played strongly by Zoe Saldana, an assassin enlisted by Lee Pace's Ronan in an attempt to retrieve the orb.  However, it  The fight between Quill and Gamora is soon intercepted by a pair of unusual bounty hunters:  a tree-like being named Groot, boldly voiced by Vin Diesel, and a fast-talking genetically engineered raccoon known as Rocket; voiced with gusto by Bradley Cooper,  The foursome are eventually arrested by the Nova Corps, the authority force of Xander, and are then taken to an intergalactic jail known as the Kyln.  There, the group soon encounters a tough inmate named Drax, played with determination by wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista, who longs to seek vengeance on Ronan for killing his family. Drax tries to kill Zoe Saldana's Gamora; due to her ties to Ronan.  However, Gamora explains that she wants to prevent the villain from utilizing the power of the orb for his nefarious purposes.  Eventually, the group works together in order to escape the prison in order to seek out a purchaser for the orb.  After learning its secrets, however, Chris Pratt's Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Dave Bautisa's Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel's Groot, and Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon eventually realize that it's up to them to stop the treacherous Ronan from unleashing the power of the orb for his sinister purposes,  And as the events of  unfold, the audience finds itself completely engrossed in the action-- thanks in large part to the performances and the chemistry of the film's keen ensemble.

What is so great about "Guardians of the Galaxy" is that each of the  protagonists are not only cast perfectly, but they are also well-developed and and emotional. Take, for example, Chris Pratt's likable performance as the film's central character Peter Quill.  As Quill, Chris Pratt provides a cheeky attitude and delivery that successfully establishes his protagonist as a charismatic rogue.  We can tell from when we first see Pratt as his character that Peter Quill wants it all-- wealth, women, and notoriety. We can tell that he desires the later quality as he desperately attempts to get Djimon Hounson's korath to be aware of his identity through his preferred nickname-- "Star Lord."  However, we know there is more to Pratt's on-screen persona; as he is seen to be very protective of his beloved cassette player and headphones; as they are a symbol of his childhood on Earth as well as a reminder of the love of his mother. . And Chris Pratt's acting in "Guardians of the Galaxy" just works perfectly.  His quick comedic timing is a delight to watch; as he interacts with his co-stars in a flawless manner.  In addition, Chris Pratt does very well when the story requires him to deal with more serious material.  He enables his protagonist to attain a sense of responsibility when it is time to confront Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser during the film's climax. And thanks to his endearing performance, Chris Pratt enables the character of Peter Quill to emerge as a sympathetic protagonist that the audience can cheer for.

And while Chris Pratt offers offers a layered performance as Peter Quill, the same could be said for Zoe Saldana, who delivers a very resolute feat as Gamora.  When we first meet Saldan's character, we can assume that she might, in fact be a villain; as she appears to be have allegiance with Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser.  However, the audience is convinced otherwise when she explains that she only wishes to acquire the valuable orb in order to protect the defenseless from its deadly capabilities. As Gamora, Zoe Saldana enables her on-screen persona possess a strong sense of loyalty; as seen from her attempts to maintain her relationship with her adoptive sister Nebular, played by Karen Gillan with pute intensity. Unlike Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Gillan's character is full of hatred and remains strong in her allegiance to Ronan the Accuser.  Watching the two battle at certain points is very enthralling; considering that Gamora does care about Nebula's well-being-- as we see her trying to save her sister at a moment where her life is threatened.  Thus, Zoe Saldana's on-screen persona possesses a strong sense of righteousness; and she is also the first of our protagonists to realize the sheer threat of the orb and wants to hand it over to the Nova Corps for safekeeping.  In addition, it's enjoyable to watch the actress interact as her character with Chris Pratt's Peter Quill.  Saldana's Gamora is able to connect with Quill over their difficult childhoods while at the same time fending off his alluring nature; as seen in a very endearing and humorous scene.   Thus, the combination of Zoe Saldana's steadfast performance and the screenplay written by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman successfully establish Gamora as a well-developed and sympathetic protagonist.

In addition, it must be said that the screenplay written by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman does a very fine job establishing the intimidating-yet-sympathetic Drax the Destroyer.  However, while the screenplay carefully crafts Drax as a character, it is the performance of Dave Bautista that truly establishes the tragic figure as being completely authentic.  Right when the audience meets Drax in the intergalactic prison known as the Kyln, it is learned that the inmate possesses an immense rage.  However, it is revealed soon after that Bautista's Drax the Destroyer only has a thirst for vengeance due to his hatred for Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser for murdering his family.  And Dave Bautista's performance works wonders for the character.  The wrestler-turned actor enables the audience to see the immense sadness in the eyes of his on-screen persona; thus making his performance even more credible.  Dave Bautisa further enables his protagonist to remain ever-determined when facing off against the villainous Ronan; particularly during their first confrontation in the film.  What's more, Bautista possess fine chemistry with his fellow castmembers; particularly Chris Pratt's Peter Quill.  Watching Pratt's protagonist react in an  incredulous manner to the brash actions of Bautista's Drax the Destroyer are fun; particularly due to the later performer's ability to respond in a simple-yet-effective fashion.  These series of interactions are particularly enjoyable during the group's escape from from the Kyln.  And when declaring his teammates as being his new friends in the events leading to the film's climax, the audience is able to feel the pride in Drax's voice; particularly due to Dave Bautista's believable acting.  In short terms, thanks to a fine screenplay as well as the unwavering performance of the wrestler-turned-actor, Drax the Destroyer emerges as a fully-developed and empathetic character.

Yes, the acting of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista for their characters Peter Quill, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer is indeed top-notch.  But what about the film's central protagonists Rocket the Raccoon and Groot; both of whom required compuetr animation and voice-over recording?  Well, thanks to the terrific performances turned in by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, their respected characters succeed in emerging as believable and compassionate.  Take Cooper's keen voice-work as the skilled marksman known as Rocket.  As the freelancing bounty hunter, Cooper provides an enjoyably hard-boiled dialogue and attitude, one so unrecognizable, you wouldn't believe that the well-known actor was providing the voice-work. When first witnessing the tough-as-nails demeanor of the rascally Rocket, the audience realize that this is one mercenary noone should mess with. And Bradley Cooper provides some of the best comedy in the film; particularly due to his sharp delivery.  Watching Chris Pratt's Peter Quill interact with the character is great; as Bradley Cooper provides a great sarcastic attitude to Rocket.  As Quill makes decisions based on quick thinking; Rocket is the first to hilariously downplay his judgement.  This establishes the two characters as a great comedy team; as Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon serves as the perfect foil to Chris Pratt's straight-man Peter Quill.  And, when Rocket emotionally describes the pain and anguish he's experienced in his lifetime, Bradley Cooper  employs his dramatic acting skills to successfully amplify the character's voice; thus enabling the audience to imagine the pain he endured.  That is how good of an actor Bradley Cooper is. And, combining the perfect voice-work of Cooper with the dedicated work of the film's computer animators,  who finely crafted the facial expressions of the actor's on-screen persona, the character of Rocket Raccoon emerges as not only a great character but perhaps one of the most memorable characters to appear in a film this year!

Image of Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon taken from http://www.comicbookmovie.com/guardians_of_the_galaxy/news/?a=106166

While the character of Rocket Raccoon is indeed one of the most memorable aspects of "Guardians of the Galaxy," it is more-than-important to address the great character known as Groot.  The tree-like humanoid, deeply-voiced by Vin Diesel, proves to be such a compassionate character.  This is seen in a lot of scenes with Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon; as the character's facial expressions enable to conveys his emotions.  These scenes are great; as the relationship between Rocket and Groot proves to be very emotional; as  the duo have clearly been working together for a long time and have formed a meaningful friendship.  And thanks to the fine fine computer animation, Groot is able to appear human; despite his tree-like appearance.  The animators worked hard to enable the character to express his emotions in simple facial expressions.  What's more though the character primarily repeats the same line of dialogue throughout the movie, Vin Diesel  utilizes different tones for his voice that enable the audience to connect to the character. And with further thanks to  the movies screenplay, the character of Groot proves to be one the audience can wholeheartedly enjoy and care about; especially during a sequence when he risks his very own life too save his teammates.  .This is an amazing task; as James Gunn, who  flawlessly directs the movie and has co-written the screenplay, got the audience to cheer for such  a character that practically speaks only one line of dialogue and is entirely computer-generated.    And  "Guardians of the Galaxy," accomplishes this with flying colors!

Vin's own personal guardian: The 46-year-old lent his voice to the character of Groot, a tree monster, in Guardians Of The Galaxy, saying he found the experience 'therapeutic' after Paul's death

Image of Vin Diesel as Groot taken from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2636970/Vin-Diesel-reveals-Guardians-Of-The-Galaxy-role-helped-deal-grief-loss-Fast-Furious-star-Paul-Walker.html

While each of the central characters of "Guardians of the Galaxy" works on their own, it is their chemistry as a ensemble that is truly remarkable.  As we have seen with "The Avengers"; the dynamic is very important in order for all of the characters to be believable as a team.  And even though Bradley Cooper's and Vin Diesel's voices are heard for their characters Rocket and Groot respectively, it almost seems as if the actors are visible on screen with Chris Pratt's Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, and Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer.  One of the film's most enjoyable sequences is when the five characters are seen breaking out of the Kyln.  Since this is the first time the fivesome is working together, it is easy to see how they must put aside their differences.  Watching Rocket Raccoon bark directions to Chris Pratt's Peter Quill on getting the materials required to successfully break out of the Kyln is an enjoyable sequence; especially when it is revealed that Bradley Cooper's character is only joking about one of the particular items. It is also worth noting that when our protagonists realize that it is up to them to stop Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser from harnessing the destructive powers of the orb, it is great to see how their efforts to stop the villain might cost them their lives.  Chris Pratt's Peter Quill makes an impassioned speech about how there is no other option, and his teammates each agree to go along with the dangerous mission.  This is a great scene because the cast's strong performances as well as the film's writing enables the audience to understand the gravity of the group's current situation and are able to officially consider them all to be real heroes.  And by the ultimate climax of the movie, the audience is able to genuinely hope that the team are able to pull through and emerge victorious.  This is a powerful scene because it shows just how close this group of rogues have become and they truly are a great team.  And thanks to the acting of  Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista as well as the vocal performances of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, the central cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy" proves to be one of the best film ensembles of 2014!

Image of Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer taken from http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20483133_20804827,00.html

While the performances of the central cast are very memorable, it is also important to point out the performances of the performers who played the central villains of "Guardians of the Galaxy". For instance, as Ronan the Accuser, Lee Pace provides a ruthless demeanor.  And with the inclusion of his outfit and makeup, the character truly appears to be a villain that is meant to be feared.  Lee Pace also employs a chilling delivery to further complete the task of making Ronan the Accuser a credible force of pure evil.  In addition, as Nebula, the ice cold and deadly sister of the more righteous Gamora, Karen Gillan turns in a shuddery performance.  As seen with Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser, Nebula is a villain that is also meant to be feared, and Karen Gillan provides the ominous demeanor required to make the character believable.  Additionally, the fact that Gillan retains  a silent stance during a lot of scenes enabled the character of Nebula to appear even more fearsome.    Both Lee Pace and Karen Gillan turn in very good performances as their respected characters and this establish them as true villains.  I just wish Gillan's Nebula had a bit more screentime.

While the acting in "Guardians of the Galaxy"  is indeed great, I must further commend James Gunn on his directing.  Throughout the movie, it is more-than-clear that Gunn has his heart set on getting everything right.   It is easy to tell that James Gunn had a clear vision when making the movie.  And he did everything he could to get great performances from his cast.  Furthermore, since he co-wrote the screenplay, James Gunn had everything planned throughout the entire filming process and wanted to make sure that the right performers played the protagonists and villians.  What's also interesting, is that Gunn carefully used humor in an effective manner to increase the likability of his film's protagonists.  And further bolstered by the chemistry of the core ensemble, James Gunn succeed in accomplishing the task of making an enjoyable wpically sci-fi inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

All in all, I couldn't be happier with "Guardians of the Galaxy".  Marvel Studios took a big risk in green-lighting a movie with relatively unknown characters to be a part of the franchise.  And with "The Avengers:  Age of Ultron" opening on May 1st of next year, I'd say everything looks bright for Marvel Studios' fun and colorful franchise.  I just hope that when and if the 'Avengers' do encounter the 'Guardians' that they are truly able to lauch a great crusade against evil.in an exciting blockbuster film.   And you can bet that I would be at the theater for that movie, enjoying the ride.

My Review of "Guardians of the Galaxy" Will Be Posted by Tuesday Night

I must apologize.  Unfortunately, my review of "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be up by Tuesday night at some point.  I have been very busy this week and I haven't had a lot of time to work on my review.  I do plan on having my article posted two nights later.  But I can assure you, my review will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, tonight I will be viewing the Whitney Players' performance of "Young Frankenstein"; based on  the classic 1974 comedy- directed by Mel Brooks.  The movie was adapted into a Broadway musical; which opened on November 8, 2007 and closed January 4, 2009.    The performance tonight is the final showing at the Hamden High School in Connecticut after a four-night run. I am looking forward to attending the show tonight.

So stay tuned for my review of "Guardians of the Galaxy"; which will be online in a few night.  Thank you all for your patience and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!

Coming Soon To "That's Nater-Tainment!"

Hello everyone!  I hope you are all having a good summer.  I took June and July off; and now, I am back and ready to blog again.  In the upcoming weeks, I plan to have a few articles posted for all of you to read.  Here's what you can expect to see in the near future:

1.  A review of "Guardians of the Galaxy".  Just last night, I had the absolute pleasure of watching the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  I have been waiting all summer to see this film.  And, as expected, I had an absolutely fun time at the theater.  By next Sunday night at the latest, I will be posting a review that details my opinions on the performances of the film's cast, my thoughts on the story written by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn (who directed the movie as well), the use of special effects, and more.  I am really looking forward to writing this review; as I have a lot of things to say. Expect this critique up by next Sunday night at the latest. I plan on reviewing more films in the upcoming weeks as well.

2.  I will also be writing an article on the current state of NBC's programming.  I will be looking back on the past  years of NBC's Thursday Night Lineup and how the network is shaping up for the 2014-2015 season.  I am going to be commenting on shows which have ended in the past few years that were not great in the ratings, but still loved by fans and critics.  Expect this article up sometime in September.

3.  And speaking of NBC, I plan on posting an in-depth article article outlining my thoughts regarding the current state of "Saturday Night Live."  As you all are aware, I was not a big fan of this past season; as the current quality of the sketch writing is terrible and even some of the castmembers are not great at all.  I will be detailing my thoughts on how the show can improve for its 40th Anniversary year,  I will also point out those in the cast I do enjoy the performances of and my opinions on the current state of "Weekend Update."  Henceforth, I will have a lot to say.  I just hope I do not get too angry as I write this piece; as I am very furious with the current state of the show.  Expect this article posted sometime in September also.

That's the show. What a very weak finale.

Thank you all for following my blog.  I will be posting a review of this episode as well as some brief comments about this season by the end of the weak.  Thank you all for following my blog.  Have a good night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!

That was a weak sketch to close out the season

The writing has been truly awful this season

I'm surprised hosts agree to do these sketches. SNL is no longer must-watch television

Oh no. I am very tired of these former porn star characters that Vanessa Bayer and Cecily Strong play

Good to see Kristen Wiig join Andy Samberg in this sketch.  But this is a pretty poor sketch idea to close out the season.  I was hoping for something more creative. SNL very rarely does anything genuinely creative nowadays.  This show is just not good anymore.  I shudder when thinking about how Season 40 will turn out to be.

St. Vincent is good performer

Aside from  the monologue, the two guest segments on "Weekend Update" and the Lonely Island video, there hasn't been anything particularly great tonight.  St Vincent is good.  But that's about it.  I wonder how they plan to close the show tonight.

St. Vincent is a good musical guest. I am enjoying her performances tonight.

Nice to see Andy Samberg's Blizzard Man character back

He always gives a gpod performance as this character.  I liked seeing 2-Chains dancing to Samberg's rapping.  The sketch basically played out the same way as previous installments though.

We are BACK!!

That was a cute little short skit.

Commercials are on now.

Another digital short

Yes!   A new Lonely Island music video.  This is a good video.  I'm glad we got to see The Lonely Island together again in a SNL musical short.

Another digital short

Yes!   A new Lonely Island music video.  This is a good video.  I'm glad we got to see The Lonely Island together again in a SNL musical short.

This sketch isn't very great.

Aside from the monologue and the guest commentaries on "Weekend Update", there hasn't been a lot of great sketches tonight.  This has been a disappointing season finale so far.  Hopefully there's a good sketch to close out the season.

We are BACK!

WakingUp with Kimye.  Taran Killam's Bruce Jenner impression is funny.  Jay Pharoah does a good impression of Kanye West.  Nasim Pedrad's impression of Kim Kardashian is alright.  But the writing for this sketch isn't very funny.

Next sketch is coming up!

Commercials are on now

These sketches always play out the same way. It just ends up being a bunch of kissing

And Maya Rudolph is here too.  So much kissing   Wow.

Oh yeah. Paul Rudd had a reoccurring role in these sketches.

Lots and lots of kissing.  Why did they bring this sketch back?

Kristen Wiig! But it's the kissing family !!!!

I have NEVER been a fan of these sketches.  It's just a bunch of kissing each other.  And lots of man-on-man kissing.  An easy crutch for getting laughs that SNL uses.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

This is great. I also like him calling Paul Rudd "Clueless"

That was a good commentary.  Andy Samberg with Paul Rudd were great.  And I really do feel that Kyle Mooney has been one of the best parts of this season.  Too bad Colin Jost and Cecily Strong just aren't funny.  None of their jokes were anything special tonight.  I wonder how "Weekend Update" will go next season if they are still anchoring.  They have not made a good impression all.

Samberg is always great as Nic Cage

I like Samberg calling Colin Jost "Seth".  I always like seeing Samberg and Paul Rudd together.

Good to see Andy Samberg as Nic Cage again

And Paul Rudd!!!  This should be good.   I LOVE that Rudd is going to play Ant-Man.

I feel that Mooney as his chacter here is very Andy Kaufman-like in his delivery

I'm glad that SNL hired someone who specializes in more experimental comedy.  I hope he and Beck Bennett come back next season

Only three jokes and first commentary

Good to see Kyle Mooney as his stand-up comic character Bruce Chandling.  Mooney and Beck Bennett have been the best of the new castmembers this year.

I hope this is a good edition of "Weekend Update"

I have been very disappointed with Cecily Strong and Colin Jost.  They are not very funny together.

We are back with "Weekend Update"

That was a good performance

Commercials are on now.  "Weekend Update" should be coming up next.

This is a good song

Many of this season's musical guests have been MUCH BETTER than last year's.  We had good performances this year.

St. Vincent is performing her song "Digital Witnesses"

One of my friends told me about this song.  I listened to it on Youtube.  I like her sound and the music is pretty catchy also.

We are back with St. Vincent!

St. Vincent's first performance is coming up

There really wasn't much to that sketch

Andy Samberg basically played a hunchback who make inappropriate comments to women.  That was too rushed and the ending was abrupt.  So far, other than the monologue, there wasn't anything very great so far.  Hopefully the show gets better.

The performances in this sketch are good.

I just feel the writers are straining to come up with ideas.  Just a bunch of very simple premises.

A sketch about 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame"

Confident hunchback.  Okay.  Andy Samberg playing a very confident hunchback.  This is pretty much a self-explanatory sketch.

We are BACK!!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

Good to see an brand new SNL Digital Short

This is pretty much a strannge short.  Basically a DJ getting the crowd to go even more nuts.  I mean, it wasn't bad.  But I was hoping for something more epic to mark Andy Samberg's first hosting stint.

The performances in that sketch weren't bad. I just wish it was funnier.

I like Kyle Mooney as the camper playing the xylophone.

I wonder why this sketch is taking place in 1990.  There hasn't been any references to that year at all.

Andy Samberg playing the camp prankster

This sketch isn't bad.  Though I feel it could be a little funnier.

This could be a good sketch.

A camp sketch.  Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon are giving good performances.

We are BACK!!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

This is very funny. I like the joke about Pharell's hat

That was cute.  And Bill Hader is here as well.  MARTIN SHORT!!!  That was GREAT!!!  Very good monologue.  It made up for the mediocre cold opening.

I like how he's poking fun at the fact that he did not appear in a lot of live sketches

Figured that Seth Meyers would make an appearance tonight.  This is funny so far.  Samberg and Meyers are always good together.

That was GREAT!!

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is a very good show.  One of the funniest new shows in a few years.

I am happy to see Andy Samberg host SNL for his first time

I want a good show tonight.

This season has just been very bad

I really want to be pleasently surprised with the sketches tonight.

Rudolph's performance is alright

The sketch just isn't very funny.  The writing is just downright mediocre.  What a shame that Samberg did not get to open the show.  I already have a bad feeling that the writing will not be very funny.

This is a disappointing opening so far.

Maya Rudopl as Beyonce.  Figured she's be on the show to plug her upcoming variety special.

The writing isn't terrible, it's just that this sketch isn't very funny so far

Jay Pharoah's impression of Jay-Z is good

Sasheer Zamata is doing alright as well.  This sketch isn't particularly anything special though.

So they are opening with a skit about Beyonce, Jay-Z and Beyonce's sister

I was hoping they would do something special considering that it's the season finale and Ansy Samberg is hosting.

And We Are Live....NOW!!!

We Are Live in a Few Minutes. Stay Tuned!

It's Getting To That Time!

In a little under an hour, my live-blogging coverage of the season finale of "Saturday Night Live", featuring Guest Host and Former Castmember Andy Samberg and Musical Guest St. Vincent, will begin.  I will be commenting on the writing, the sketches, all of the performances, and anything else that comes to mind during the telecast.  I REALLY hope this season's finale is a good one; seeing that the 2013-2014 year has not been very good at all!

Be sure to have your televisions set to NBC by 11:30pm and have my blog on your computers.  Be sure to keep refreshing your computer screens so you can see my latest remarks.  Be sure to share your own thoughts by clicking the "Comment" link underneath any of my posts.  Your feedback means a lot and I look forward to seeing your opinions.

Thank you all for following my blog.  Stay tuned and I will see you at showtime.  It's the Season Thirty-Nine Finale!!!

Tonight, Andy Samberg Hosts the Season Finale of "Saturday Night Live"!!Whi

Well, this is it.  After twenty episodes, Season Thirty-Nine of "Saturday Night Live" comes to a close with Former Castmember Andy Samberg hosting for his very first time.  Coincidentally, he is hosting two years since leaving the long-running variety after seven years as a castmember.  I have enjoyed Samberg's performances on the show when he was a cast.  Even when the writing was not at its best, Andy Samberg's performances as well as his keen comedic chemistry greatly helped improve sketches.  I have genuinely enjoyed most of Samberg's digital shorts; which he put together with writers Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.  All three were members of the comedic troupe The Lonely Island and were brought onto the show in its thirty-first season.  Andy Samberg was hired to join the cast as a featured player and Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone were enlisted as being writers for the show. His breakout short on the show was a music video entitled "Lazy Sunday"; which he did with fellow castmember Chris Parnell.  The video featured Samberg and Parnell eating donuts and rapping about their excitement over seeing the 2005 Disney film adaptation of "The Chronicles of Narnia."  The video was a big success and Samberg's popularity started to grow.   During his tenure as a castmember, Samberg collaborated with different musical guests and hosts.  But it was Justin Timberlake who ended up being Samberg's biggest collaborator; as they starred in digital shorts as a pair of smooth-voiced R & B singers.  Like "Lazy Sunday," their  videos became instant viral hits after debuting on the show.  Samberg's seven years on the show were enjoyable and I was sad to see him leave after Season Thirty-Seven.

While I did enjoy seeing Andy Samberg perform regularly on "Saturday Night Live", it should be stated that I have become a fan of his starring role on the FOX comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine; which premiered September 17 of this past year.  On the show, Andy Samberg stars as Detective Jake Peralta; a very skilled but juvenile police officer.  Despite his clownish antics around the police station where he works, Samberg's character solves cases very well.  Andy Samberg exhibits his comedic timing more-than-frequently and he has good chemistry with all of his co-stars; especially Andre Braugher, who plays Captain Ray Holt- the no-nonsense Commanding Officer of the Precinct.  Watching Braugher interact with Samberg on "Brookly Nine-Nine" is enjoyable; as his deadpan delivery as a good match for the latter's fun-loving attitude.  For his performance as Detective Jake Peralta, Andy Samberg has won a Golden Globe at this past January's ceremony.  I am looking forward to seeing "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" return for its second season this Fall.

Needless to say, I hope tonight's season final of "Saturday Night Live" is a good one.  The writing has not been very good this season; as you know from my live-blogging of many of this year's shows.  Seeing as this is the final episode of the season, I truly hope that the writers come up with good sketches that suite Samberg's comedic style.  I really want a fun show tonight and I greatly hope I am not disappointed; as I will be commenting on the sketches, the performances of the cast, Andy Samberg, and Musical Guest St. Vincent; who is performing on the show for her first time.  I truly hope for a good show.

So, be sure to have your televisions set to NBC by 11:30pm and have my blog on your computers.  Be sure to keep refreshing your computer screens so you can see my latest thoughts.  Feel free to share your own own viewpoints on the episode by clicking the "Comment" link underneath any of my posts.  Your feedback means a lot and I look forward to seeing your opinions.

Well, that's pretty much the show

Andrew Garfield did a very good job as the host.  And aside from the cold opening, Colin Jost and Cecily Strong onn WU, and the predictability of the "Oliver Twist" sketch, this wasn't a bad show at all.  Lots of good performances and I am glad that Andrew Garfield got to be used well as the host.  And I was happy to see Emma Stone appear in the monologue as well as a sketch.  Not bad at all.  Thank you all for following my blog tonight.  Have a good night and stay tuned for more Nater-Tainment!!

They are replaying The Bird Bible Ad???

Wow!!  They must not have time for another quick sketch.  That's a disappointment.  What a waste of filling time.

This hasn't been a bad show

Commercials are on now

The show is almost over.

I am enjoying their performances a lot

Chris Martin is a great vocalist.  Great performances by the band

This song sounds good so far

Coldplay is such a good band.  They are definitely one of the better musical guests this season!

We are back with Coldplay!

cOMMERCIALS ARE ON NOW

The writing in this sketch isn't bad

And I'm happy to see Featured Player Kyle Mooney get more appearances in live sketches.  Not a bad sket ch, though the ending was a tad abrupt.

Andrew Garfield is doing a good job in this sketch

I like that he is being given real roles on the show and not just playing straightmen like a lot of hosts have done this season.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

commercials are on now

This is greatE

Even though the joke is basically the two of them having difficulty kissing, their performances are very good.  Chris Martin's cameo is nice, but the whole man-on-man kissing joke is played out.  Though  I did like Martin's saying his lines in an overly-romantic manner.  The ending wasn't bad.  Not a bad sketch.

Good to see Emma Stone in a sketch,

I like seeing them together in a sketch.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now.

Taran Killam and Kate McKinnon are definitely my two favorite people in the main cast.  Cecily Strong and Colin Jost still do not do a lot to impress me as "Weekend Update" anchors.

Taran Killam is the only castmember to interact with the audience

I wish more castmembers would do that.

I love the way he says "NEXT:!" everytime he goes to another card

Taran Killam always performs well as this character

The writing can be harsh for these segments, but Killam makes me laugh with his performance.

Colin Jost hasn't really made me laugh

Alright!!  Taran Killam as "Jebidiah Atkinson!  He's always great as this character.

I wish Kate McKinnon would be a co-anchor on "Weekend Update"

She would be MUCH FUNNIER than Cecily Strong!

Even though the writing of this segment isn't good, Kate McKinnon's performance is making it good

Kate McKinnon is a very good performer

She has been my favorite of the female castmembers this season.  She has always been able to improve the quality of poorly written sketches with her performances.

Kate McKinnon as her Russian character

She does a very good job speaking in a mock Russian accent.

I just find Colin Jost to be really bland.

Cecily Strong just isn't very funny to me.

I hope this edition of "Weekend Update" is good

We are back with "Weekend Update"

Good performance by Coldplay

The show is going to commercial now.  "Weekend Update" should be coming up next

This is a good performance.

They are such a good band.

Their music is great and I like this song very much,

They are performing their new song "Magic"

I like this new song of theirs.  Their music is always good.  I always enjoy their performances on SNL.

We are back with Coldplay

Commercials are on now

Coldplay's first song will be coming up next

Kate McKinnon was funny there asher character

I guess this ewas meant to be a parody of a certain movie.  The performances in it were good.

This filmed piece isn't terrible

Though the joke of everyone coming after Andrew Garfield's character because he isn't crazy about Beyonce's new music is kind of silly.  I liked Chris Martin's cameo appearance in the sketch though

I liked Andrew Garfield's performance very much

He's been a good host so far

TCecily Strong's character eating all of the soup was very predictable

Andrew Garfield is giving a good performance is good.

I

Cecily Strong's performance here is not very funny

Her acting is too forced.  I have grown very tired of her on SNL.  And it is only her second season.  Not good at all!

A parody of "Oliver Twist"

I hope this sketch is good.

We are BACK!!

Next sketch is coming up

That wasn't a bad sketch. I liked it.

Commercials are on now.  Next week will be Charlize Theron's second time on SNL,  She first hosted back in the Fall of 2000.

The writing isn't bad in this sketch.

I am liking this sketch.  I'm also getting laughs out of Taran Killam's impression of Russel Crowe,

I've never been crazy about Kenan Thompson's Steve Harvey impression

Kate McKinnon's Shakira impression is good.  And I'm getting some laughs out of Andrew Garfield's Justin Timberlake impression.

Andrew Garfield as Justin Timberlake!

All the impressions so far are not bad.  I like Kye Mooney as his electronic musician character

New "Family Feud" sketch parody

They did this one this past December when Jimmy Fallon hosted

We are BACK!!

First sketch is coming up

Commercials are on now

This commercial parody mainly consists of a lot of juvenile humor

An easy crutch for SNL nowadays.

That was a cute monologue.

Not bad at all.

They are so good together I

So Aidy Bryant has an appearance in the new "Spider-Man" film.  Good for her,

Called IT!!!!

She is always grear when she hosts.  I hope she hosts again in the future.

I hope Andrew Garfield gets good sketches

This is Coldplay's fifth time as musical guest

I REALLY hope tonight's show is a good one

Kenan Thompson isn't really adding anything funny to this opening

This isn't a great opening at all  They have been doing A LOT of group openings a lot lately.  I guess it's there way of giving all the featured players an opportunity to open the show,

Good to see Featured Player Shasheer Zamata get screentime in the opening

Though her material isn't funny.  Jay Pharoah's impression of Dennis Rodman is alright, I guess.  It's just the writing is not funny.  It is just a bunch of race jokes.

I figured they woild do something that addresses Don Sterling

Bobby Moynihan is doing an alright job with the writing.  Though the material isn't very funny,.

We Are Live....NOW!!!!

We are live in a few minutes!!!

Stay tuned!

Tonight, Andrew Garfield Hosts "Saturday Night Live"!

Tonight at 11:30pm, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" returns from a three week break with an all-new episode; the first of the final shows of the season.  Andrew Garfield will be hosting the show for his first time.  Garfield is currently starring in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"; which opened just yesterday.  I enjoyed Andrew Garfield's performance as Peter Parker in the 2010 reboot of the "Spider-Man" film franchise.  As Peter Parker- a high school student- who gets bit by a radioactive spider and gains the power to shoot webs as well as perform incredible acts of agility, thus becoming the titular superhero-- Andrew Garfield gave a great performance and possessed terrific chemistry with Emma Stone-- who portrayed our hero's love interest Gwen Stacy.  Both Garfield and Stone were a treat to watch in the 2012 film and I look forward to seeing the sequel at some point.

I am looking forward to seeing Andrew Garfield host "Saturday Night Live" this evening-- as it will be his first time. Joining Garfield as the show's musical guest will be Coldplay-- who will be performing on the show for their fifth time. Garfield last appeared on the long-running variety series on November 12, 2011, when Emma Stone, who is also his actual girlfriend, hosted for her second time, during the monologue-- in which then-castmember Andy Samberg dressed-up as "Spider-Man" and poked fun  at the fact that the reboot was opening a decade after the original film.   I am sure that she will appear at some point during the show and partake in a sketch or two.  I enjoyed Stone's second hosting stint; as she performed very well with the cast and brought a lot of energy to the sketches. I am interested in seeing what sketches Andrew Garfield is given tonight,  I am looking forward to seeing him exhibit his comedic chops tonight.  I just hope the evening's sketches are good tonight-- considering that the writing this season has NOT BEEN VERY GOOD AT ALL!!

Which bring me to this point:  with three more episodes to go this season, I do not have a lot of faith left.  As you have seen from many of my live-blogging sessions this season, I have not been very happy with the poor quality of writing this season.  It seems as if the writers are more focused on making the joke of a sketch very obvious right at the start and dragging the whole thing out in order to fill the designated runtime.  in fact, the humor of many of the sketches this season have been borderline juvenile-- so much so that it seems that the show is trying to only target young people this season.  What's more, the over-reliance on longtime castmember Kenan Thompson, who is in his eleventh year on the show, has hurt the quality of the sketches even more.  With the departures of more-talented castmembers Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen, Kenan Thompson has been made into the star of the show.  Which is not good at all because he does not possess the fine acting skills to be a leading man.,  His overracting in sketches have made things worse.  What's more, Cecily Strong has proven to be a weak co-anchor on "Weekend Update"; as she possesses no fine comic delivery and her performances when delivering jokes appears forced and not at all natural.  In addition, Colin Jost, who took on the role of co-anchor on March 1st, a month after Seth Meyers left the show to take over hosting "Late Night," has proven to be a poor choice as well- as his overall delivery is very bland and he does not possess any chemistry whatsoever with Cecily Strong.  In short terms, I am very worried about the state of the show right now.

It should be said, however, that the only laughs I've gotten from the cast this season are primarily from castmembers Taran Killam and Kate McKinnon; who manage to improve the quality of the sketches with their performances.  In addition, I will say that new featured players Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney have brought a fun dynamic to the show with their chemistry; which has primarily been seen in their short films. However, aside from these four castmembers, there haven't been constantly reliable sources of humor from the rest of the cast this season.  Nevertheless, despite not having a lot of confidence left in the season, I am curious to see how tonight's episode turns out.
