Well, this is it. After twenty episodes, Season Thirty-Nine of "Saturday Night Live" comes to a close with Former Castmember Andy Samberg hosting for his very first time. Coincidentally, he is hosting two years since leaving the long-running variety after seven years as a castmember. I have enjoyed Samberg's performances on the show when he was a cast. Even when the writing was not at its best, Andy Samberg's performances as well as his keen comedic chemistry greatly helped improve sketches. I have genuinely enjoyed most of Samberg's digital shorts; which he put together with writers Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. All three were members of the comedic troupe The Lonely Island and were brought onto the show in its thirty-first season. Andy Samberg was hired to join the cast as a featured player and Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone were enlisted as being writers for the show. His breakout short on the show was a music video entitled "Lazy Sunday"; which he did with fellow castmember Chris Parnell. The video featured Samberg and Parnell eating donuts and rapping about their excitement over seeing the 2005 Disney film adaptation of "The Chronicles of Narnia." The video was a big success and Samberg's popularity started to grow. During his tenure as a castmember, Samberg collaborated with different musical guests and hosts. But it was Justin Timberlake who ended up being Samberg's biggest collaborator; as they starred in digital shorts as a pair of smooth-voiced R & B singers. Like "Lazy Sunday," their videos became instant viral hits after debuting on the show. Samberg's seven years on the show were enjoyable and I was sad to see him leave after Season Thirty-Seven.

While I did enjoy seeing Andy Samberg perform regularly on "Saturday Night Live", it should be stated that I have become a fan of his starring role on the FOX comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine; which premiered September 17 of this past year. On the show, Andy Samberg stars as Detective Jake Peralta; a very skilled but juvenile police officer. Despite his clownish antics around the police station where he works, Samberg's character solves cases very well. Andy Samberg exhibits his comedic timing more-than-frequently and he has good chemistry with all of his co-stars; especially Andre Braugher, who plays Captain Ray Holt- the no-nonsense Commanding Officer of the Precinct. Watching Braugher interact with Samberg on "Brookly Nine-Nine" is enjoyable; as his deadpan delivery as a good match for the latter's fun-loving attitude. For his performance as Detective Jake Peralta, Andy Samberg has won a Golden Globe at this past January's ceremony. I am looking forward to seeing "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" return for its second season this Fall.

Needless to say, I hope tonight's season final of "Saturday Night Live" is a good one. The writing has not been very good this season; as you know from my live-blogging of many of this year's shows. Seeing as this is the final episode of the season, I truly hope that the writers come up with good sketches that suite Samberg's comedic style. I really want a fun show tonight and I greatly hope I am not disappointed; as I will be commenting on the sketches, the performances of the cast, Andy Samberg, and Musical Guest St. Vincent; who is performing on the show for her first time. I truly hope for a good show.
