Carrey will be hosting the long-running variety series for his third time while Azalea will be performing on the show for her first time.

Jim Carrey will host Saturday Night Live with musical guest Iggy Azalea on October 14, 2014.

Jim Carrey first hosted "Saturday Night Live" on May 18th of 1996-- which happened to be the season finale of the series' twenty-first season.  The episode ended up being a classic and also solidified Will Ferrell, who joined the show at the start of the season, as a valuable performer  Jim Carrey was hosting the show at the peak of his film career; right after starring in movies like "Ace Ventura:  Pet Detective", "The Mask", and "Dumb and Dumber"; all of which had been released in 1994 and emerged as comedic hits at the box office.  Jim Carrey performed keenly in the evening's sketches.  The most memorable of which was a segment which featured the comic actor playing a wild club patron along with Will Ferrell's and Chris Kattan's popular head-bopping characters known as "The Roxbury Guys."  The sketch was a lot of fun; particularly due to the wild energy Jim Carrey shared with the two "Saturday Night Live" castmembers, as well as the overall set-up of the piece- which was the three club hoppers crashing a high school prom and a party at a retirement center following their attending of a night club.  Another memorable sketch of the night featured Carrey playing an overprotective lifeguard; who was constantly keeping an eye on a perplexed Jacuzzi user; played by Will Ferrell.  Carrey and Ferrell possessed great comedic chemistry and it was a delight watching the sketch become more and more crazy as it progressed.  I just wish that Jim Carrey had hosted the show once more before Will Ferrell left-- just so we could have seen them star in sketches together again.

Jim Carrey wouldn't host "Saturday Night Live" again until January 8th of 2011.  This time, the show proved to be not as memorable; due to the quality of writing declining dramatically.  I remember watching the episode, wishing that the writers gave him better material to work with that would have properly Jim Carrey to properly use his wild brand of physical comedy properly.  The best sketch of the night was a piece where Carrey and castmember Taran Killam played two sinister-looking animatronic amusement park ride robots that occasionally came alive and terrified a passenger; played by castmember Kenan Thompson.  The sketch was particularly enjoyable due to the physical performances of Killam and Carrey; both of whom genuinely looked convincing as their characters.  The piece was enjoyable in its performances and writing.  And unfortunately, Jim Carrey wouldn't host again for another three years.

Which brings us to tonight's show.  Jim Carrey is hosting to promote "Dumb and Dumber To"; the much-anticipated sequel to the original comedic film.  Carrey is re-teaming once again with co-star Jeff Daniels; to play lovable dimwits Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne respectively.  Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels possessed great comedic chemistry in the 1994 film and audiences are eagerly awaiting to see the two characters engage in crazy hijinks once again.  Hopefully"Dumb and Dumber To", which opens nationwide on November 14th, is fun movie and a worthy follow-up to its classic predecessor.  It would be a lot of fun to see Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels portray their characters on tonight's episode; allowing audiences to enjoy their fun comedic chemistry in one of the evening's sketches or maybe even on "Weekend Update".  All we can do is wait and see.
