A That's Nater-Tainment!" Special Report: Charlie Day Hosts "Saturday Night Live" Tonight!

In a few hours, “Saturday Night Live” will be live once again after two weeks of repeats. Tonight, Charlie Day, who starred in the R-rated comedy “Horrible Bosses” this past summer and is also a castmember on the FX series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” will be hosting the long-running sketch comedy program for the first time. Joining him as the musical guest is Maroon 5; marking this episode as the band's third appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” It will be wonderful to see a brand-new episode tonight and I’m looking forward to seeing Day perform on live television. And before the broadcast, I thought it would be interesting to post some guesses for what’s in store for tonight’s show. So without further ado, I now present:

My Predictions for Episode Five of “Saturday Night Live’s” Thirty-Seventh Season: Charlie Day / Maroon 5

1. Seeing as they starred together in “Horrible Bosses,” I’m sure that Charlie Day is going to be paired-up with “Saturday Night Live” castmember Jason Sudeikis for a good number of sketches. As they exhibited great chemistry in this past summer’s big comedy, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the two comical performers interact in front of a live audience. I just hope that after having two weeks off, the writers have come up with some great sketches that feature the two actors greatly. However, even if the writing is less-than-stellar, I’m sure that Day and Sudeikis will do what they can to make the sketches memorable.

2. Also, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Jason Bateman cameo as well; seeing as he starred in “Horrible Bosses” with both Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis. All three performers were very funny together and I would love to see the three performers reunite for either a follow-up to their hit movie or some other performance-based sketch. Seeing the three actors join up on live television would be more-than-great and would provide plenty of laughs and memories for everyone.

3. And, on the subject of special guests, I am also predicting this idea. It’s no surprise that throughout the history of “Saturday Night Live,” the host’s television or film co-stars were invited to appear on the show. Case in point: for his first hosting stint in October 2008, Jon Hamm brought along some of his fellow “Mad Men” castmembers for a sketch. Henceforth, I am predicting that Charlie Day’s fellow castmembers of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” will show up to participate in the monologue or some other sketch. For example, maybe during the monologue, Day goes on a rant about how he thinks that he’s the star of the FX series. But then, his co-stars Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney, and Danny DeVito appear on stage and start yelling at him; initially claiming that their series is a team effort. But then they get sidetracked by arguing who, in fact, is the star of the series. Or, as I wrote in an earlier post, it would be great to see five-time host Danny DeVito give a panic-stricken Charlie Day pointers on how to perform the opening monologue. Or maybe Day’s fellow castmembers could appear in a sketch at some point during the show. Nevertheless, I can definitely see Charlie Day’s fellow castmembers appear during the broadcast; making the episode even more enjoyable and special.

4. Finally, seeing as Maroon 5’s Adam Levine is widely known, both from his band’s music and the NBC hit reality series “The Voice,” I would not be surprised to see him appear in a sketch. I could see him paired-up with Andy Samberg for a digital short; which isn’t a long-shot considering that they both starred in a musical pre-filmed piece at the start of “Saturday Night Live’s” Thirty-Third Season. Or maybe he’ll appear in a sketch spoofing “The Voice” or some other music-themed segment. Nevertheless, I am predicting that Maroon 5 will play their latest single “Movies Like Jagger” as well as another song from their most recent album.

So there you go; my predictions for tonight’s episode. But no matter what, I’m sure that Charlie Day and the “Saturday Night Live” cast will bring their game tonight after being on a break for two weeks. And I look forward to live-blogging the entire show; commenting on the show’s writing, performances, and other matters.

And I really want you all watching as well. I look forward to seeing your own comments and thoughts. Your feedback is very important and I am eager to see what think about the show.
